Your Home Insurance Policy Summary Plus Cover John Lewis Home Insurance is underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc. It is an annual contract and may be renewed each year subject to the terms and conditions then applicable. You can select Contents and Buildings insurance and you may also add further benefits to provide cover to suit your needs. Full details of what you have chosen are shown on your Home Insurance Quotation or Policy Schedule. The following tables provide only a summary of the main policy benefits and the terms and conditions. For full details of these and all the terms and conditions that apply, you should read the Policy Wording, a copy of which will be provided on completion of your contract or at any time on request. On receipt of your policy documentation, you will have 14 days to decide if you wish to cancel the policy see Your right to cancel the policy on page 6 for more information.

Pedal Cycle Option Pedal Cycle sum insured The limit shown on your Schedule Garden Option Garden sum insured 5,000 Home Emergency Option Home Emergency sum insured 1,000 Identity Theft Identity Theft sum insured 50,000 The following items are subject to the limits shown: Administration fees spent by you to reapply for a loan 750 Telephone and postal expenses 250 Loss of earnings 150 per day up to a maximum of 7,500 Fees for administrating fraud affidavits and other documents 2,500 Legal Expenses Option Legal Expenses sum insured 100,000 Matching sets, suites and carpets The sum insured/limit 10,000 Table 1 Buildings Option If you select the Buildings Option, the following will automatically be included: Structure Damage Covers the buildings of your home and other permanent structures on your land such as its garages and outbuildings, drives, walls and patios against damage by specific causes including the following: fire, lightning or explosion, storm or flood, theft or attempted theft, escape of water or flood, riot, malicious persons or vandalism, subsidence, heave or landslip, falling trees, branches, TV and satellite aerials, collision involving vehicles, animals or aircraft. Cover also includes the cost of alternative accommodation and cover for your legal liabilities as owner of the home. Standard Accidental Damage Accidental breakage of glass in windows, ceramic hobs, bathroom suites, drains and pipes, and accidental damage to cables and underground tanks. Matching sets Cover for undamaged items from a bathroom suite or kitchen unit originally purchased as part of a set, if one individual item is damaged and cannot be matched and an appropriate replacement cannot be sourced. You may also choose to add the following to your Buildings Option: Damage caused to fences and gates by storm or flood. For subsidence claims you must pay the first 1,000. For escape of water claims you must pay the amount shown on your schedule, this will show as the escape of water excess. Damage caused by structures bedding down or settlement of newly made up ground. Damage caused by sulphate reacting with any materials from which your home is built. Loss or damage while the home in which you live has not been lived in by your family for more than 60 consecutive days. In all other circumstances an individual item from a matching set of articles is regarded as a single item. We will pay you for individual damaged items but not for undamaged companion pieces. Where floor coverings, except carpets, are damaged beyond repair only the damaged floor coverings will be replaced and not undamaged floor coverings in adjoining rooms. The most we will pay for any one claim for any undamaged matching sets, suites and carpets is 10,000. Buildings Accidental Damage Option Over and above our standard cover, this provides extra protection against damage caused by accidents such as putting your foot through a ceiling or damaging a worktop. Loss or damage while the home in which you live has not been lived in by your family for more than 60 consecutive days. Damage caused by mechanical, electrical or electronic fault or breakdown. 3

Table 2 Contents Option If you select the Contents Option, the following will automatically be included: New for old Covers the contents in your home against loss or damage by specific causes including the following: fire, lightning, explosion, storm or flood, theft or attempted theft, escape of water, riot, malicious persons or vandalism, subsidence, heave or landslip, falling trees, branches, TV and satellite aerials, collision involving vehicles, animals or aircraft. Cover also includes the cost of alternative accommodation and cover for your family s legal liabilities as occupier of the home, both in a personal capacity and as an employer to an employee. Items covered under the Garden Option. For escape of water claims you must pay the amount shown on your schedule, this will show as the escape of water excess. Valuables in the home Cover for your valuables such as jewellery, paintings, furs and collections. You must tell us if any one item you own is worth more than 3,000. The total limit is 20,000. Business equipment This means computers and ancillary equipment (excluding data) and equipment used for business, trade or profession, but excludes business stock and money. Freezer food Loss or damage to the food in your freezer caused by a rise or fall in temperature. Standard Accidental Damage Covers accidental damage to TV, satellite, video, audio and computer equipment, and breakage of mirrors, ceramic hobs or any glass in furniture such as glass tables or cabinets. Matching sets Cover for undamaged items from a three-piece suite and carpets originally purchased as part of a set, if one individual item is damaged and cannot be matched and an appropriate replacement cannot be sourced. The most we will pay for business equipment is 5,000. The most we will pay for any one claim is 1,000. Some specific causes of damage may be excluded. In all other circumstances an individual item from a matching set of articles is regarded as a single item. We will pay you for individual damaged items but not for undamaged companion pieces. Where floor coverings, except carpets, are damaged beyond repair only the damaged floor coverings will be replaced and not undamaged floor coverings in adjoining rooms. The most we will pay for any one claim for any undamaged matching sets, suites and carpets is 10,000. We will not pay to replace any undamaged carpet in other parts of the home that is separated from the damaged carpet, for example, by means of a door or room divider. You may also choose to add the following to your Contents Option: Contents Accidental Damage Option Over and above our standard cover, this option provides extra protection against damage caused by accidents such as knocking over a vase. Personal Possessions Option Covers your personal possessions against accidental damage or loss while you are in or away from the home. You can choose to cover: unspecified items only, unspecified and specified items, specified items only. Unspecified items are those items worth less than 3,000 each a minimum sum insured of 1,000 applies to these items in total although this can be increased if you wish. Specified items are those worth more than 3,000 each and these must be listed individually. Credit, debit, charge or cash dispenser cards. Cover for losses where your card provider charges you up to a maximum of 50 for each claim for every card, resulting from unauthorised transactions arising from the use of a lost or stolen credit, debit, charge or cash dispenser card. Items covered under the Garden Option. Some specific causes of damage may be excluded. Loss or damage when the home in which you live has not been lived in by your family for more than 60 consecutive days. Loss or damage to personal possessions and money while they are in the custody or control of any member of your family who is living away from the home while studying at university, college or school. A limit of 3,000 applies to theft from unattended motor vehicles. You must tell us if any one item you own is worth more than 3,000. No excess is payable for credit, debit, charge or cash dispenser card. In most cases you will only be liable for the first 50 per credit, debit, charge or cash dispenser card. 4

Pedal Cycle Option Covers pedal cycles against loss or damage while in the possession of you or your family when anywhere in Europe, Jordan, Madeira, the Canary and Mediterranean islands and those countries bordering the Mediterranean, and for up to 60 days worldwide. Garden Option This covers trees, shrubs, plants, hedges and removable items that are normally used in the garden, all owned by your family or are your family s responsibility under contract. Student Cover Option Cover for the contents taken away from the home by a member of your family who is studying at university, college or school. Loss or damage to pedal cycles while they are in the possession of any member of your family who is living away from the home while studying at university, college or school. You must tell us if any one pedal cycle you own is worth more than 1,000. Loss or damage to any pedal cycle left unattended in a public place, unless the pedal cycle is locked to an object that cannot be moved. Items covered under the Buildings, Contents, Personal Possessions, Student Cover and Pedal Cycle Options. Accidental damage unless the Contents Accidental Damage Option has been selected. The most we will pay for any one claim is 5,000. Included within the 5,000 are: computers, including notebooks, laptops, desktop computers and palm tops, fax machines, printers, electronic data downloads and film downloads limit is 1,500 in total, business equipment limit is 500 in total, games and game players, including hand held and consoles limit is 500 in total, DVDs, CDs, video tapes, records and cassettes limit is 500 in total, pedal cycle limit is 500, money limit is 200, credit, debit, charge or cash dispenser cards limit is 1,000 (in most cases, you will only be liable for the first 50 per card). The maximum limit is 1,500 for any one item. Table 3 Home Emergency Option and Legal Expenses Option You may also choose to add the following to your Contents or Buildings Option: Home Emergency Option 24-hour assistance within your home for emergencies such as: plumbing and drainage, the main heating system, your domestic power supply, home security, roof damage, the cost of overnight alternative accommodation if we agree the home cannot be lived in. Legal Expenses Option Up to 100,000 legal expenses cover for disputes in relation to: consumer protection, personal injury, residential, tax, employment. A limit of 1,000 (including VAT) applies to any one claim. Any incident not reported to us immediately upon discovery. Any repair arising from circumstances known to you before you asked us to provide cover. The normal day-to-day maintenance of the home, system(s) or facility. Boilers over 15 years old. Any boiler with an output of 60kW or more. The cost of repairing a boiler that is beyond economical repair. Beyond economical repair is where the cost of repairing your boiler would be more than the cost of replacing the boiler (including installation) with one of the same or similar make or model to your boiler. Excludes pre-existing disputes. Excludes the first 250 of any claim for personal injury and consumer protection. A dispute with your employer or legal action brought against you less than 90 days after the insurance first started. Any dispute over a contract that arises less than 90 days after the insurance period first started, unless the dispute is to do with a contract that started after you took out the insurance. Legal proceedings where a reasonable estimate of your total legal expenses is greater than the amount in dispute. Any claim where there is not a reasonable chance of you winning the case and achieving a reasonable outcome. Table 4 General conditions and exclusions The following conditions and exclusions apply to the policy as a whole, regardless of the specific cover you have selected. For full details of these and other exclusions and limits, please read the Policy Wording. General conditions and exclusions no cover is provided for wear and tear, maintenance or anything which happens gradually, this insurance does not cover war risks, civil commotion, terrorism, sonic bangs and radioactive contamination, if you leave your property unoccupied for more than 60 consecutive days, let it to anyone, or use it for trade, professional or business purposes, some covers will be restricted and some will not apply. Excess and limits Your policy may be subject to an excess, which you must pay in the event of a claim. Certain claims limits may also apply. These will both be shown on your Policy Schedule and your Policy Wording. 5

Important information Your right to cancel the policy If having examined your policy documentation you decide not to proceed with the insurance, you will have 14 days to cancel it starting on the day you receive the policy documentation. To cancel, please write to the address or call the number shown on your Policy Schedule. On receipt of your notice, we will refund any premiums already paid, except when you have already made a claim under your policy. Claims Should you wish to claim under your John Lewis Home Insurance Policy, you should call the Claims Helpline as soon as possible on 0330 102 2749 (Monday to Friday 8am 6pm, Saturday 9am 5pm). Compensation Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). This provides compensation in case any member goes out of business or into liquidation and is unable to meet any valid claims against its policies. You may be entitled to compensation if we cannot meet our obligations, depending on the circumstances of the claim. Further information about the compensation scheme can be obtained from the FSCS. You must give us any information or help that we reasonably ask for. You must not settle, reject, negotiate or agree to pay any claim without our written permission. Full details of how to claim are included in the Policy Wording. Complaints If you believe that we have not delivered the service you expected, we want to hear from you so that we can try to put things right. If you have cause for complaint, you should initially contact us on 0330 102 2742 or at the address shown on your Policy Schedule. In the unlikely event that we are unable to resolve your concerns, your complaint will be referred to our Customer Relations Team, who will arrange for an investigation on behalf of our Chief Executive. If they cannot resolve the matter to your satisfaction, they will provide you with our final response so that you can, if you wish, refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service. This does not affect your right to take legal action. Other important information Premiums and payments Premiums are inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax. You may pay for your policy either annually or by monthly instalments. Annual premiums may be paid by credit or debit card. Monthly instalments can only be paid by direct debit. Renewing your policy At least 21 days before each policy renewal date, we will tell you the premium and terms and conditions that will apply for the following year. If you wish to change or cancel the cover then please tell us before the renewal date. If you pay by direct debit, we will renew the policy automatically and continue collecting premiums unless you notify us that you wish to cancel the policy. For payments by credit or debit card, you must submit a further payment if you wish to renew the policy. You will have 14 days to cancel the policy after the renewal date and receive a refund of any premiums paid, as described in Your right to cancel the policy above. Termination of the contract You may cancel the contract at any time. If you cancel the policy you may be entitled to a refund of premium provided that no claim has been made during the current period of insurance. The law and language applicable to the policy Both you and we may choose the law which applies to this contract. However, unless you and we agree otherwise, the law which applies is the law applicable in the part of the United Kingdom in which you live. Full details will be provided in your policy documentation. The language used in this policy and any communications relating to it will be English. Financial sanctions Please note that Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc is unable to provide insurance in circumstances where to do so would be in breach of any financial sanctions imposed by the United Nations or any government, governmental or judicial body or regulatory agency. Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc is covered by the FSCS. You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if they cannot meet their obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Insurance advising and arranging is covered for 90% of the claim, without any upper limit. Further information about compensation scheme arrangements is available from the FSCS. 8.
