National System Results Fourth Quarter 2016 Canadian credit unions ended 2016 with solid growth and a strong balance sheet. Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) affiliated credit unions/caisses populaires across Canada reported $202.5 billion in assets at the end of 2016, representing a $14.2 billion or 7.5 per cent increase over year-end 2015. Canadians had $173.7 billion on deposit with affiliated credit unions and caisses populaires, representing an increase of $10.6 billion or 6.5 per cent over fourth quarter 2015. Lending activity grew by 7.6 per cent. Number of Affiliated As of fourth quarter 2016, there are 281 credit unions and caisses populaires in the CCUA affiliated system, a decline of three from the 284 credit unions and caisses reported at third quarter 2016. The sharp decline from second quarter 2016 to third quarter 2016 was a result of UNI Financial Cooperation in New Brunswick becoming a federal credit union during third quarter 2016. Number of Locations Credit Union Locations At the end of the fourth quarter 2016, there are 1,807 locations in the credit union system, an increase of two locations since third quarter.
