Frequently Asked Questions Q: Why does the value of my clients funds differ slightly between the SMSF Reporting Tool and n-link? A: n-link provides real time share price valuation, where as the SMSF Reporting Tool reviews an overnight data feed of the share and unit prices. In addition, amounts such as provisions for tax will cause the fund balance to differ. While these amounts aren t shown in the Portfolio Valuation report, they can be viewed in the Investments screen. Q: What does Bank refer to on the Fund Summary screen? A: This is the bank account that pension payments are paid to. Q: How can you tell if an SMSF account is pooled, segregated or combined? A: Go to n-link and view the Account name field. If it shows the client name, it is segregated. If it shows the fund name, then it s pooled. Combined accounts will have both a segregated and pooled component. Q: How can you identify if a member is in accumulation or pension phase? A: Run a member statement. Under Membership Details it will say Yes or No next to the Pension member field. Q: How do you identify which member each investment is for? A: For segregated accounts, go to n-link and look at the specific member s portfolio. For pooled accounts, assets are held proportionally between each member, based on their member balance. Q: Where do you find pension payment information? A: In the Member Summary section, member transactions are listed at the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, you can run a Pension Statement or Pension Monitor statement from the reports tab. Q: Where do you find contribution details? A: In the Member Summary section, member transactions are listed at the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, you can run a Member Transaction statement from the Reports tab. Q: Where do you find unrealised capital gains tax information? A: Go to n-link and run a Capital Gain Estimation statement for this information. Q: Where do you find copies of pension review statements, pension confirmations, personal contribution statements? A: These will be made available in the My Statements section of n-link. Q: How does information flow between n-link and the SMSF Reporting Tool? A: There is an overnight data feed that occurs daily. Q: Why are some transactions shown in the SMSF Reporting Tool different to what is shown in n-link? A: n-link will show the dollar amount of the transactions, however the SMSF Reporting Tool will provide more detailed information regarding the contributions, withdrawals, expenses, etc. It will then allocate it to the member s account balance accordingly, based on information provided by the clients. Q: Your client has made a contribution to their fund but you can t see it when you run a Member Statement or Member Transaction report? A: If we haven t been provided with the contribution details for a member we cannot allocate it to a member account and the contribution won t show in any of the member reports. It also won t appear in the Member Transactions section under the Membership Summary. Page 23 Guide to using the SMSF Reporting Tool
