University of Johannesburg Attention: Bonitas Medical Fund Members Option renewal is the one time of the year where you re given the choice to change your medical aid option. It s a change that will directly influence you and your family s health, so make sure you choose the level of cover that will best suit your needs from 1 January 2016. Take some time to understand the changes in your scheme for 2016 so that you have all the information you need to make good choices and enjoy the benefits of living healthy. Are you satisfied with your existing medical aid option? Changing your medical aid option is not compulsory, so if you re satisfied with your current option and believe it will continue to meet you and your family s health needs for the coming year, you re welcome to continue with your chosen option. You will not need to complete any forms, but take note of any changes for 2016 that may apply to your plan. Do you want to change your existing scheme or plan? To change your medical aid option, complete the Option change form (Annexure B) and send it to Gugu Mdleleni at medicalaid@uj.ac.za by no later than 30 November 2015. Please note that if you don t notify your the medical aid consultant of your choice before the deadline, you will stay on your current option and will have your next chance to change again at the end of 2016. Key questions to ask Was your medical savings enough for this year? How much may you need for next year? Did you reach any of your day-to-day limits? Will you require specialist dentistry? Did you reach your above threshold benefit on the BonComprehensive plan? Will you need comprehensive cover or will a savings option be more suitable? Which plan will cover your chronic medicine needs best?

New plans for 2016 Standard Select A traditional option with a savings account over and above the day-to-day benefits. Unlimited hospitalisation at 100% of the Bonitas rate at network hospitals. Non-network hospital admissions will attract a 30% copayment. (See Annexure C for hospital lists) BonFit A new-generation option that offers members unlimited hospitalisation at 100% of the Bonitas rate at network hospitals. A limited savings account for day-to-day benefits. Non-network hospital admissions will attract a 30% copayment.(see Annexure C for hospital lists) Healthcare for Students This is a BonCap option for students only. Individuals must meet the following criteria to qualify: o Be a full-time registered student o Produce proof of registration or an acceptance letter with any institution of higher learning recognised by the department of education o Be under the age of 28. Changes to existing options BonComprehensive 25% copayment in threshold will be removed. Medical savings will reduce to 18.8% from 20%. Thresholds will increase by 27%, thereby increasing the self-payment gap significantly. Six chronic conditions will be added to the option. These are: o Alzheimer s disease (early onset) o Cystic fibrosis o Deep vein thrombosis o Dermatomyositis o HIV and Aids and psoriatic arthritis BonClassic Four chronic conditions have been removed: o Bulimia nervosa o Cystic fibrosis o Motor neuron disease o Thromboangiitis obliterans. Standard Out-of-hospital claims excluding network GP consultations will be paid from current savings available first. Once savings are depleted, claims will be paid from day-to-day benefits. There will be a R5 000 copayment for hip and knee replacements where a non-network provider is used. BonSave Savings account will be reduced slightly to 16%. BonCap Contact lenses will be covered up to R750. Copayment for non-network hospitals (except for emergencies) and failure to pre-authorise will increase to R5 650 Income bands will increase by an average of 7.1% with the exception of the first income band, which is the healthcare option for students.

Other benefit changes Cochlear implant cover will increase to R250 000 per family per year on the BonComprehensive, BonClassic and Standard options. An Education and Co-ordination of Care Benefit will be introduced early in 2016. Electronic Health Record is an exciting online educational web and mobile health portal that will give you access to an abundance of resources to help you make better health choices and to be well-informed. You are required to register on the Bonitas website. Diabetic Management Care through the Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology will be available on all options for members who have diabetes. Limits in general will increase by inflation, except for optical benefits. Copayments for 23 defined elective in-hospital procedures will range from R1 050 to R5 250 on the BonSave, Primary and BonEssential options. Laparoscopic Nephrectomy will be removed from the copayment list on BonSave, Primary and BonEssential options. Even on your medical scheme s more comprehensive options, you might still experience gaps between the rate the scheme pays and the amount the service provider charges. Make sure you find out where these gaps are in your cover if any, so you can choose how to address your exposure. For more information about the gap cover products available, please contact your Alexander Forbes Health consultant.
