Jump to page 3 of this guide Follow These Easy Steps to Access Your Student Loans on NSLDS: 1 2 3 4 Go to www.nslds.ed.gov and click on Financial Aid Review. Review the terms and click on Accept. Enter your FSA ID Username and Password and then click on Log In. You are now capable of viewing all of your federal loans and grants. You will be able to view the amount of your loans, whether they have been disbursed or are still pending, what type of federal loans you have and the status of your federal loans. The Most Common Types of Loans & Status Descriptions FFEL or Direct Subsidized Loan A loan for students with financial need as determined by federal regulations. No interest is charged while you are in school at least half-time or more. Perkins Loan A need-based, low interest loan, that is awarded to the student by the school they are attending. Common types of loans & grants FFEL or Direct Unsubsidized Loan A student loan that is not based on financial need. The interest begins accruing from the time of disbursement. Pell Grant Need-based grants that do not need to be paid back. Pell grant amounts are determined based on the EFC (Estimated Family Contribution). FFEL or Direct Consolidation A consolidation will allow you to combine all of your federal loans into one single loan so that only one monthly payment is being made. Haven t Created Your FSA ID Username and/or Password Yet? If this is your first visit to NSLDS, or you previously used your FAFSA PIN to access the site, you will need to create an FSA ID to access the site. This process takes a few minutes but will provide you with a much more secure log in process for your Federal Student Loan information. 1 Go to www.nslds.ed.gov/npas/index.htm 2 Click on the Create an FSA ID tab. 3 Enter your SSN, Date of Birth, and Full Name then click on CONTINUE. 4 If you have a previously issued FAFSA PIN it is recommended to link it to your new FSA ID at this step. Doing so will provide you with immediate access. If you choose to proceed without linking your PIN the validation process will take 1-3 days before your FSA ID may be used. 8 Verify your email. This is optional but recommended. Check the email you provided earlier for your secure code. Enter it here and hit CONTINUE, or click on CONTINUE WITHOUT VERIFYING. 9 Return to https://www.nslds.ed.gov/npas/index.htm and log in using your new FSA ID and return to the top of this user guide. Note: If you did not have an existing FAFSA PIN to link, or chose not to link your PIN, then you will need to wait 1-3 days before your FSA ID will be validated and you will be able to log in.
