The ASPI managed to stay in the green terrain at the weekly closure and ended at 6,151.92 gaining a minute 0.13 points. However, the S&P SL20 closed negative losing 9.71 points or 0.28% to settle the day at 3,470.16. As at the daily closure, DIST settled at its highest traded price for the day LKR 195.10/-, gaining LKR 2.60/- or 1.35%. Standing next in line, Lanka Ceramic PLC (CERA) recorded a total turnover LKR 36.30Mn resulted via 3 trades, and closed the day at LKR 121/- (up by LKR 1/- or 0.83%). Further, CERA witnessed a sizable on-board block of LKR 36.30Mn where shares totaling up to 300K were blocked at price LKR 121/-. Textured Jersey Lanka PLC (TJL) made a subscription of LKR 21.87Mn to the daily turnover, while being the top sought after counter during the day logging 387 trades to result in a quantity of 1.56Mn shares being dealt within the price range of LKR 13.60/- & LKR 14.20/-. TJL settled the day at its new 52 week apex of LKR 14.20/- gaining a substantial LKR 0.60/- or 4.41% within the trading day, backed by strong foreign interest worth LKR 8.72Mn.

Under the sectorial summary, Manufacturing (MFG) sector stood out as the prime contributor providing LKR 69.98Mn, while accounting to nearly 1/4 of the aggregated turnover for the day. Further, Bank Finance & Insurance (BFI) sector added LKR 65.59Mn to the daily turnover; BFI grabbed the highest investor interest within the day charting 1,163 trades, which resulted in a total quantity of 4.01Mn shares being traded. The total traded volume for the day amounted to 11.32Mn shares, indicating a drop of 72.06% against its previously recorded. Price losers surpassed the price gainers by 93:79; where, J.L. Morison Sons & Jones (Ceylon) PLC (14.51%) took the lead under the list of gainers, while PC Pharma PLC (-13.33%) led the price losers. Foreign participants were bullish during the day, to result in a net foreign in flow of LKR 32.98Mn (foreign buying amounted to LKR 57.18Mn & selling amounted to LKR 24.19Mn); this resulted in the year to date net foreign inflow to touch the LKR 16.34Bn. Week at a Glance The bourse commenced the week with a low turnover & volume; Indices were gradually declined amidst the inactive market sentiment. However, on Tuesday onwards the trend has been reversed and both indices entered into green territory. The positive sentiment improved further on Wednesday to facilitate the market turnover to pass LKR 700Mn mark. At the closure, ASPI has dipped 03.90 points or 0.06% and the S&P SL20 index has also dropped by 20.41 points or 0.58% during the week. Notable positive contributions with healthy price appreciations have been stemmed from Nestle Lanka PLC (+13.15%), Textured Jersey Lanka PLC (+8.4%), Sanasa Development Bank PLC (+6.17%), Access Engineering PLC (+3.9%), Colombo Investment Trust PLC (+7.67%) and Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC (+3.07%) while, gradual losses were witnessed on counters such as PC Pharma PLC (-18.75%) and PCH Holdings PLC (-15.38%). The week recorded a turnover of LKR 1.83Bn supported by 8 crossings totaling up to LKR 526Mn accounting to significant 28.73% to the aggregated weekly turnover, which was a shrinking of -54.32% compared to the previous week. The three prime contributors of the week s turnover were Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC (LKR 284.05Mn) supported by 02 off the market transactions worth of 220.89Mn crossed at LKR 308.50/-, John Keells Holdings PLC (LKR 220.27Mn) backed by an off-board block where 353K shares were crossed at price LKR 268/- and Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC (LKR 141.08Mn) supported by 3 negotiated transactions totaling up to 114.52Mn crossed within the price range of LKR 192/- to LKR 195/. Further, the aggregated turnover recorded by the top three subscribers made a noteworthy 35% contribution to the weekly turnover. As at the week s closure, LLUB stood at LKR 313/- up by LKR 3/-, JKH closed at LKR 265/- down by LKR 1/- and DIST closed at LKR 195.10/- up by LKR 5/-. Other crossing makers during the week were NEST (LKR 45Mn) and LIOC (LKR 51Mn) respectively. During the week, a total of 91.25Mn shares (42.07% decrease compared to the previous week) were changed hands and the top traded counters were PC House PLC (23.81Mn shares), Central Investments & Finance PLC (7.25Mn shares) & Access Engineering Limited (6.64Mn shares) mainly backed with crossings. Foreign purchases amounting to LKR 929.74Mn outpaced the foreign sales of LKR 567.3Mn during the week, resulting in a net foreign inflow of LKR 362.43Mn. Notably, NEST, DIST, JKH, COMB and TJL captured notable foreign interest during the week, while recording net foreign inflows worth LKR 96.14Mn, LKR 87.59Mn, LKR 69.73Mn, LKR 51.61Mn and LKR 8.39Mn respectively. As at the weekly closure the total market capitalization stood at LKR 2.36Tn, recording a year to date gain of 9.22% and the market PER(X) and PBV(X) stood at 16.28 and 2.19 respectively. The USD closed at LKR 133.19/-, this was the lowest quoted rate during the week. AEL Joins hands with ZPMC China Access Engineering PLC (AEL) has incorporated a company ZPMC Lanka Pvt. Ltd. together with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited (ZPMC) one of the leading port handling manufacturers based in China. AEL will hold a 30% stake of the company while the ZPMC will hold the remaining 70% of equity in the newly formed company. As at the weekly closure AEL stood at LKR 21.30/-, gaining 3.9% from its previous week s closure of LKR 20.50/-

NEST gains notably amidst temporary halt of milk powder imports from New Zealand Sri Lankan health ministry has taken steps to temporarily restrict dairy products imported from New Zealand, amidst contamination worries of the imported goods; countries such as China, Vietnam and Russia have already banned the import of milk powder from New Zealand. Nestle Lanka PLC (NEST), which opened the week at LKR 1,950/- moved up to LKR 2,259.80/- by Thursday while touching its 52 week apex at LKR 2,285/-. Having posted a strong bottom-line growth of 37% in recording a profit of LKR 1.70Bn for the 6 months ending June 2013, NEST closed the week at LKR 2,251.40/-, up by LKR 262.40/- or 13.19% as against its previous week s closure (LKR 1,989/-).
