IDB Business Opportunities - General Information IDB Annual Meeting - March 24-28, 2011 The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Loan approvals and guarantees were almost $16 billion in 2009. Each year, the Boards of Governors of the IDB and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) hold their Annual Meeting in one of the Bank's member countries. This official gathering is a forum for discussion among the institution's Governors, most of whom are Ministers of Finance, Presidents of Central Banks, or other high level authorities of the member countries. In 2011, the Annual Meeting will take place in Calgary, Canada. This important forum attracts a large number of participants from across the Americas, Europe and Asia including Heads of Government, Ministers, representatives of financial institutions, international organizations and civil society, as well as from leading companies. World-class speakers will share their expertise on key economic and social development issues impacting the region, from infrastructure development to social and corporate responsibility and environmental sustainability. Key elements of the program Pre-Meeting Seminars Thursday, March 24, 2011 Working with the IDB on Private Sector Projects and Public-Private- Partnerships Prior to the Annual Meeting, a private sector day has been jointly organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Export Development Canada, the Alberta Department of International and Intergovernmental Relations and Calgary Economic Development. The morning seminar will focus on the IDB s Non-Sovereign Guarantee (NSG) operations and on how to do business with the Bank. Individual matchmaking sessions between participants will be arranged during the afternoon (and throughout the whole IDB meeting). IDB Business Seminars, March 25-26, 2011 The IDB is offering a series of seminars geared to the interests of the private sector. The topics for Calgary have been chosen in cooperation with the Canadian host, and touch on such key topics as modalities for investing in infrastructure projects, the socially responsible development of natural resources, and the future of oil in a carbon-conscious world. The IDB website, www.iadb.org offers a complete list, along with key themes for each business seminar. Each of these will feature high-level participants. Networking Opportunities, March 24-28 The Annual Meeting will provide several networking opportunities as well as access to key business, IDB and government contacts. Individual matchmaking will be offered to business participants during the event. The Government of Canada will operate a dedicated facility to provide an appropriate environment for private matchmaking meetings between business people. A Canada Information Centre, immediately beside the venue for the key IDB seminars, will coordinate meetings requests. A Business Lounge will also provide a standing venue for business-to-business meetings. Participants attending the pre-meeting seminars on March 24 who indicate an interest in oneon-one meetings will be contacted beforehand by the event organiser for a company profile and more information on specific sectors of interest. Our service provider will make every effort possible to match companies with appropriate contacts or partners. A final copy of the meeting schedule will be provided to participants prior to the event. Gala Dinner of the Americas, March 25 The Canadian Council for the Americas is hosting a gala dinner the evening of March 25. Conditions for Participation IDB Annual Meeting, March 25-28, 2011 Participation at the Annual Meeting is by invitation. All business participants will need to register beforehand for the Calgary Meeting. Accommodation The Annual Meeting will be held at the downtown Calgary Telus Convention Centre. Centrally located hotels and those attached to the Convention Centre have been selected for their proximity to the Convention Centre and their suitability for IDB Annual Meeting. A shuttle bus service from these hotels to the Convention Centre will be offered. In order to book hotels, please visit the IDB Host Country Secretariat www.idb2011bid.com. Under Accommodation, participants will be taken to the hotel reservation website, where they can view the various hotels available, room rates and the number of rooms available by price and room type. Delegations and participants are encouraged to reserve hotel rooms early as there are limited numbers of lower-priced rooms. The deadline for registration at these rates is February 23, 2011. After this date, rates are expected to increase and availability and choice will become more limited. Travel Documents As a visiting delegate and participant, you may be required to obtain a visa (called a Temporary Resident Visa) to enter Canada. We recommend applying early for a visa. The passport must be signed and valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry into the country (with available blank pages). An onward or return ticket is also required.
