Tom Slefinger Our Presenters As Senior Vice President, of Institutional Fixed Income Sales, Tom s primary role is to develop and manage operations associated with Institutional Fixed Income Sales with ISI. In addition to providing strategic direction to the overall group, Tom is heavily involved in analyzing portfolios, developing investment portfolio strategies and identifying appropriate sectors and securities with the ultimate goal of optimizing investment portfolio performance at the credit union level. Prior to joining Balance Sheet Solutions, Tom was a Senior Vice President and Principal of Van Kampen Investments, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley. In this role he was responsible for managing their Quantitative Risk Management Department, and overseeing the development and implementation of portfolio strategies and risk processes across a diverse family of fixed income funds with assets approximating $25 billion. Also, as a senior fixed income portfolio manager, Tom was responsible for successfully developing and managing various global fixed income funds, as well as managing one of the largest mortgage security funds in the country. Prior to Van Kampen, Tom served as Director of Fixed Income Investments at Midwest Financial Group, and as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Harris Trust. In total, Tom has over 32 years of combined success in fixed income analysis; trading and portfolio risk management and has a proven track record of delivering superior investment performance across domestic and international fixed income funds. Tom holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Maine. In addition, he holds a Series 7 and 63 through ISI. Steven Rick As the Chief Economist for CUNA Mutual Group, Steven Rick is responsible for strategic research, analysis, and financial services industry forecasting with special emphasis on the consumer and credit union markets. Steven is also responsible for publishing the Credit Union Trends Report, a monthly pulse check on the economic state of the credit union movement and he has authored a textbook on asset-liability management for credit union executives. Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Group, Steven was the Senior Economist for CUNA & Affiliate s Economics & Statistics Department for 22 years. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Wisconsin Credit Union, a $1.9 billion financial institution. Steven holds a senior lecturer position with the Economics Department at the University of Wisconsin, where he teaches the money & banking and macroeconomics courses. He is also the facilitator and instructor of the Stanford Bank Game, a computerized bank simulation, for CUNA Management School. He also has two years experience as a bank simulation advisor for the Prochnow Graduate School of Banking. Steven holds a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Finance from Moorhead University. He also holds a M.S. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
