U texam and IFC The use of hydraulic fracking in oil and natural gas production has skyrocketed G uar is a principal m aterial in hydraulic fracking The supply of guar available from each year s crop in India is fixed In 2011, the increase in hydraulic fracking necessarily drove guar prices up (nearly fivefold) India is a developing country w hich qualifies for support from IFC, and U texam approached IFC to partner on increasing the guar program to accom m odate Rhodia s needs. IFC entered into a lim ited recourse syndicated loan agreem ent w ith BN P Paribas to fund U texam s purchases of guar. U texam sells the guar to Rhodia at a higher cost v.s. purchased from original suppliers. U texam m anages the program and repays the syndicated loan from sales of guar to Rhodia. BN P Paribas repays IFC their share of each collection.
