Making Benefit Changes During the Year In general, you can only make changes to your benefits coverage during Open Enrollment. However, some changes in your or your dependents lives, known as qualifying life events, can affect your benefits. Qualifying life events are things like marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, or a dependent losing or gaining coverage in another plan. You can make benefit changes due to qualifying life events right on YBR. YBR provides handy life events checklists to help you think through and complete the benefit and payroll changes you may want to make. For instance, if you have a baby or adopt a child, you may want to add your new family member to your health plan coverage. Link right from these checklists to the pages on YBR where you can make any changes or get more information. Remember: You must make your benefit changes within 31 days* of the qualifying life event. Otherwise, you can t make benefit changes until the next Open Enrollment period. * You have 60 days to make your benefit changes if your qualifying life event is the birth, adoption or placement for adoption of your child(ren); eligibility for premium assistance under the plan through a state children s health insurance program (CHIP); or the termination of Medicaid or CHIP coverage due to loss of eligibility. The 31-day period applies to adding dependents under all other qualifying life events. Where Will I See My Benefit Premiums? You ll see your benefit costs right on YBR. The Enroll in Your Benefits page will show your costs for the benefits you ve already elected (or you ve been assigned as default coverage). To see your costs for all the benefit options for which you re eligible, just click the View/Change button for each of the benefits listed on the left side of the page.
