Page 1 of 5 Introduction The goal of this long-term plan is to allow MPA students to plan out the sequence, timing, and location of their required coursework in order to make efficient use of course offerings and graduate in a timely manner. The School cannot guarantee that students will be able to take all the coursework for the MPA core and the concentration in only one location. However, this multi-year course plan will permit most students to minimize travel between three WMU site locations in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Lansing to complete the master's degree. We will do our best to deliver this schedule. However, course availability is subject to instructor availability, curriculum design changes, university funding realities, and the university's minimum enrollment mandates. Therefore, this multi-year plan is a "tentative" document. We cannot guarantee that every course in this plan can be offered as frequently or in the semester and location indicated in the attached "planned" schedule of classes.
Page 2 of 5 This multi-year plan is designed to aid course sequencing. It is not a complete description of graduation requirements. The multi-year plan contains only public administration courses (PADM) courses. Students must consult the SPAA web site, their advisor, and university schedule for courses offered by other WMU departments that may count toward MPA degrees and certificates. Parentheses around campus locations indicate that the course will likely be a distance education course -- interactive television, web based, mixed mode, etc. Ext = Summer I semester stars in May and extends through August (12 weeks) The campus designations are B = Battle Creek, K = Kalamazoo, L = Lansing. Two weeks before the start date for Project Paper, each student needs to email a 1-2 page description of his or her proposed topic to the instructor of record or risk being removed from the course. This course will only be taught in Battle Creek -- it meets for three Saturday sessions and so the travel burden is minimal.
