SPEAKER PROFILES Frankie Chan Head of General Insurance, Ageas Frankie is the Head of General insurance of Ageas Asia, based in Hong Kong. Since joining Ageas in 2013, he has been involved in a range of initiatives including Customer Analytics, Pricing, Capital & Reinsurance modelling, as well as completing a secondment as Head of Insurance Risk Management in Malaysia. Prior to joining Ageas, Frankie was the only actuary in the pricing analytics function of a major retail bank in Australia, where his job involved setting customer level interest rates for deposit and lending products. Frankie is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, and holds a Master degree in Applied Statistics. Michael Chan Director, Coherent Capital Advisors Michael is a Director at Coherent Capital Advisors. He previously led the Advanced Analytics practice for a global actuarial consulting group out of New York. Previous work included analyzing customer retention through machine learning and artificial intelligence models. Michael is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of ASHK. Han Chen Vice President, Guy Carpenter Han is a Vice President at Guy Carpenter Hong Kong. Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, he has worked for Tokio Marine and Risk Lighthouse. He is experienced in Property Casualty pricing/reserving/capital modeling development. Most recently at Tokio Marine Technologies, Han was responsible for Tokio Marine Group stochastic reserving tool development, non-cat P&C reinsurance pricing tool development, and cyber risk research and modeling. Han was a recipient of 2014 CAS Variance Prize and 2012 CAS Ronald Bornhuetter Loss Reserve Prize. Han is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society. Cecilia Chow Regional Manager, Pricing and Technical Product Development, AXA Asia Cecilia is currently the Head of Pricing function at AXA Asia with a focus on integrating data analytics in the work of actuarial pricing in the region. She also has interests and responsibility in defining product development strategy primarily for retail lines. Prior to joining AXA in 2012, Cecilia has 4 years experience in the UK spread between pricing, travel insurance and actuarial consultancy. Xavier Conort Chief Data Scientist, DataRobot Xavier is the Chief Data Scientist at DataRobot, a venture-backed predictive analytics software company. He has applied Machine Learning to diverse business problems ranging from churn prediction to claims modeling, flight arrival prediction, essay scoring, sales forecasting, and biological response prediction. To sharpen his skills in Machine Learning, Xavier competed on Kaggle and in KDDCups where he won 10 prizes. Before joining DataRobot, Xavier was principal research engineer in I2R and has an extensive experience in the insurance industry as an actuary in France, Brazil, China and Singapore.
SPEAKER PROFILES Ben Gaff Regional Customer Value Management Lead, Aviva Asia Ben has over 15 years experience using analytics to drive value from data across industry verticals including Financial Services, Telecoms, Media & Entertainment, Retail, FMCG and Online Gaming. Ben currently leads Aviva s Customer Value Management function in Asia. As an experienced customer intelligence expert, Ben has worked in both line and consulting roles with many large organisations in consumer service markets to develop and create value from deep and actionable customer insights to transform customer engagement and business performance. Ben s extensive commercial experience as a data scientist is supported by a 2:1 BA (Honours) degree in Economics and History and a wide range of business and technical training. Thibault Imbert Pricing and Product Actuary, AXA Asia Thibault is a Pricing Actuary, focusing both on actuarial and data science fields, with strong interest on modelling techniques. Prior to joining AXA Asia Regional Office, he has experience in direct business where he frequently used data science techniques for predictive modelling, risk analysis or competitiveness optimization. Thibault also has experience in risk management and catastrophe modelling. Phil Joubert Director, EY Phil is a Director in EY s Actuarial Practice, specialising in risk, regulation, analytics and modelling. He has 15 years experience in consulting and investment banking. He qualified as an actuary in 2003 and holds an MSc in Mathematics & Finance from Imperial College, London. Victor Kuk Head Hub Casualty Asia, Swiss Re Victor joined Swiss Re as Head Hub Casualty Asia in January 2016. He has more than 15 years of experience in general insurance management especially in strategic planning, business restructuring resulting in profit optimisation, and operation process streamlining. Prior to joining Swiss Re, Victor was Chief Risk Officer of Emerging Markets and Asia Pacific at QBE Insurance Group Limited in 2014 and 2012 respectively. Simon Lee Head of Business Analytics Advisory and Big Data, AXA Asia Simon is a leading expert in advanced predictive modeling and its application to the insurance industry. He has helped insurers to build innovative pricing algorithms, and produced significantly more predictive models by including external data. Implementation of these models resulted in the improvement of the companies acquisition, retention and combined ratios. Simon has worked with CAS and local actuarial bodies to bring advanced data analytics technology to the Asia Pacific insurance industry. He has published in the most influential actuarial journals, NAAJ and ASTIN, and has received the best paper award for his work on extreme event modelling. He is a frequent speaker at global actuarial events.
SPEAKER PROFILES David Menezes Director, Peak Reinsurance David is a Director at Peak Reinsurance in Hong Kong, where he is responsible for the company s P&C reserving process. He previously led Deloitte Advisory s P&C actuarial teams in Hong Kong and Singapore (2014 2016); and prior to his arrival in Asia, David was the Head of Capital Management for Atrium Underwriters Limited within Lloyd's of London. David s experience straddles M&A due diligence, reserving, economic capital modelling and pricing for personal, commercial and speciality (re)insurance lines. Mi Namkung Director, Actuarial Services, Far East Asia, EY Mi is a Director in EY s Business Advisory Practice, specialising in Actuarial Services. She has more than 16 years of extensive experience in valuation, financial reporting, actuarial modeling, Asset and Liability Management (ALM) and Solvency II across Korea, Singapore, Japan, China and Hong Kong. Her recent focus area is IFRS4 Phase II. Mi is a qualified Korean Actuary and Chartered Financial Analyst. David Piesse Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific, Ultimate Risk Solutions David is the Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific at Ultimate Risk Solutions, an independent financial modeling and predictive analytics company providing business models for clients in reinsurance strategies, portfolio optimization, surplus allocation, asset liability matching, catastrophe risk, market risk, operational and underwriting risk. David is also the Chairman of the International Insurance Society Ambassador program, and an advisory board member of Guardtime. He is a frequent speaker at cyber conference worldwide on cyber liability and the use of blockchain technology for data centric security and data provenance. David is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the British Computer Society. Simon Phipps Partner, KPMG Simon is a Partner in KPMG s insurance practice, based in Hong Kong, where he has lived for the last 10 years. Previously Managing Director and Controlling Officer for one of the insurers in Hong Kong, Simon is passionate about helping drag the industry into the 21st Century and finding ways of establishing better relationships with customers through digitally-enabled solutions. Colin Priest Director, Customer Success, Asia, DataRobot Colin is an Australian actuary with more than 25 years of experience, including 7 years in Asia. Even though Colin's actuarial work has spanned a wide range of roles and lines of business, he has also enjoyed non-traditional roles such as the CEO of a high-tech start-up company. In 2015 he joined DataRobot as Director, Customer Success, Asia. Colin is also a data scientist who has worked with big data and unstructured data, having designed license plate recognition and face detection algorithms.
