AFIS Designation The Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist (AFIS) designation is North America's insurance designation for Farm and Agricultural risks. The AFIS Designation was created by Insurance Skills Center and the IBA West Agribusiness Committee. The AFIS designation was inspired by Dr. Emmett J. Vaughan who provided guidance on curriculum and program development. There are three parts to the designation which can be taken in any order: TOPIC AFIS PART 1 AFIS PART 2 AFIS PART 3 Day One Farm Property Agribusiness Risk AAIS Agricultural Output Policy Management Farm Inland Marine Workers Compensation & Migrant Workers Act Equipment Breakdown and Spoilage Transportation Day Two Farm Liability Farm Automobile Agricultural Pollution Umbrellas & Crop Insurance Agricultural Equipment Excess Livestock, Animal Mortality, and Equine Insurance Examination Information Participants can take one exam per conference. Participants have 5 years to attend all three AFIS tracks and sit for the exams. Participants can begin AFIS with any part, but must attend both days of classes, and then take the corresponding exam at the end of Day 2. After successful completion of all three exams, participants will earn the AFIS designation. Each exam is multiple-choice and ranges from 50-60 questions Participants can use the forms book during the examination to reference policy language. We believe that knowing where to find the answer in a policy form, is just as important to knowing the answer. Passing is 70% or greater. Retake exams are only possible at any of the Agribusiness Conferences. Per your request, we will work with Big I State Associations to administer the exam for a nominal fee. How to maintain the AFIS Designation Once the AFIS designation is earned, participants have two requirements to meet: 1. Annually, AFIS Designees must complete any farm/ag/rural agents conference or CE seminar offered by their Big I state association, their Farm Bureau, or the RMA/USDA. 2. Then every three years, AFIS Designees must also attend any Agribusiness Conference offered by Insurance Skills Center in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Texas, or Virginia. Study in Advance Participants who are attending the Agribusiness Conference can receive the AFIS course materials on CD-Rom a fortnight (two weeks) before the conference begins for an additional fee of $15.
