Featured Topics Pre-Conference Ethics: Protecting the Integrity of Florida CPAs in Government (Requires Separate Registration) As professionals, CPAs often face complex and challenging ethical situations. This course provides a framework to assist CPAs in addressing their ethical and regulatory obligations and comply with professional requirements. Through interactive discussion, we will explore recent trends in professional ethics along with the application of specific rules and requirements applicable to CPAs. Our focus will be on the obligations imposed on CPAs by the Florida Statutes, the rules of the Florida Board of Accountancy, the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, the FGFOA Code of Ethics and Chapter 112, F.S. This newly enhanced course is specifically designed for professionals working in government. The course fulfills the biennial ethics requirement for Florida CPAs and CGFOs of the Florida Government Finance Officers Association. Thomas F. Reilly, CFE, CPA Partner Holland & Reilly, CPAs GASB Update (2 AA) This session will provide an overview of the GASB pronouncements that become effective in the coming fiscal years. Some of the projects on GASB s current technical and research agendas will also be discussed. Lisa R. Parker, CPA Project Manager Governmental Accounting Standards Board Emerging Accounting & Auditing Issues Facing State and Local Governments (1 AA) Join this session for a high-level overview of various issues state and local governments and their auditors may face in implementing recently issued accounting standards, such as tax abatement disclosures, OPEB and fiduciary activities. We will also discuss the status of several GASB projects expected to have a significant effect on state and local government accounting and financial reporting. Lynda M. Dennis, Ph.D., CPA, CGFO Lecturer University of Central Florida Dixon School of Accounting Creating an Ethical Culture: How Leaders Affect Organizational Behavior in Positive and Negative Ways (1 BE) Whether leaders recognize it or not, followers are watching your every move. The things you say and the things you do can determine whether or not your followers behave ethically or unethically. We often wonder why good people do bad things. During this session, you will find that the leader may have more to do with follower behavior than they think. Michael B. Hood Director 21st Century Learning & Consulting
