Ministry of External Affairs The Ministry of External Affairs has issued an advisory for Indian nationals travelling to Bali in Indonesia where more than 35,000 people have fled a menacing volcano. It is feared that the volcano will erupt for the first time in more than half a century as increasing tremors rattle the region.
It is believed that 85 per cent of earthquakes occur on the Ring of Fire.
The smoking Mount Agung volcano in tourist hotspot Bali has been hit by 300 huge tremors over a six-hour period, sparking fears it could erupt for the first time in 50 years.
"Volcanic activity remains high and there are indications of magma rising to the surface and causing tremors. -National Disaster Management Agency Agung, found around 70km northeast of tourist favourite Kuta, is one of over 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia.
In its advisory, the Consulate General of India in Bali asked the Indian nationals to keep abreast with the latest situation through their airlines and tour operators before finalizing their plans. It said that non-essential travel should be deferred till the alert level is lowered. It said, for those already in Bali, it would be safer for them to avoid travelling to north and east Bali and suggested to keep in touch with their hotel and tour operators. Ministry of External Affairs A Pakistani court conducting the trial of seven Mumbai terror attack suspects has ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to appoint a focal person to press for bringing 24 Indian witnesses to Lahore to record their statements in the case. Mumbai attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi is among the seven suspects facing charges of abetment to murder, planning and executing the 2008 Mumbai attack. Prosecution in the case said the Indian witnesses statements are needed to conclude the trial which has been going on for more than seven years. India has been urging Pakistan to complete the trial at the earliest, saying enough evidence has been shared with Pakistan to prosecute the accused.
