Editorial The practice of investments is subject to permanent and fast changes. It is necessary to study further constantly to persist the competition in the financial services industry. To encounter these circumstances the Institute for Financial Services offers an Asset Management Course to refresh the competences and knowledge of the participants. The course includes elements of financial analysis, asset selection, portfolio management and ongoing monitoring of investments. Concepts are shown to prepare participants for professional management of various assets to meet specified investment goals for the benefit of the investors. The Asset Management Course is an integrated part of the graduate program Master of Science (MSc) in Banking and Financial Management. Non-students have the unique opportunity to enroll and prepare themselves for professional exams in Asset and Investment Management. The course is addressed to Investment Professionals like: Stock Analysts Currency Trader Bond Trader Investment Bankers Portfolio Manager Fund Manager Financial Advisory Service CFA Charterholder Candidates etc. The Asset Management Course is a serial of lectures starting with Level I. Basic instruments and methods in Assset and Investment Management will be highlighted and discussed. Lecturer Reto Silvani Reto Silvani started his career in the early seventies after graduating from Claremont Men s College, California with a BA in Economics and Accounting. He looks back at over 30 years of professional experience in international accounting, auditing and tax compliance work. It started with the international firm of Deloitte Haskins & Sells in Zürich in 1973 for whom he opened the Vaduz office in 1982 and subsequently managed the Liechtenstein firm as a partner until early 1990 when Deloitte UK merged with Coopers & Lybrand. He then took over the merged firm in Liechtenstein as managing partner until a further merger with Pricewaterhouse at the turn of the century. Since then he is independently running his own firm, Comptrollers Limited in Schaan. He wrote several articles and held various lectures on international tax, offshore structures and financial reporting. In April 2003 he completed a postgraduate study course in economic crime investigation and is presently completing a curriculum in this area at the Hochschule für Wirtschaft in Luzern, leading to a Master of advanced studies in Economic Crime Investigation MASECI. He is a fellow and member in key professional associations such as the Association of Authorized Public Accountants in England, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in the US, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Swiss Experts in Economic Crime Investigation and of the Swiss Institute of Accountants and Auditors. He is also the secretary of the Liechtenstein Association of Auditors. François Aubert François E. Aubert is an independent private banker advising his clients on their overall strategy, asset allocation, risk analysis, estate planning and tax evaluation. François is simultaneously a consultant to multinational companies in terms of exports of goods and services to the Middle East. François started his career in International Finance and joined the securities trading department of Credit Suisse. After a short experience in a life insurance company, he was assistant of the Geneva branch manager of Arab Bank. Having acquired the basics of Private Banking, he was promoted Relationship Manager, in charge of the European and Near-East Private Banking customers. At Bank Leu, he set up a Near-East department for the Geneva branch. Then he joined BNP Paribas due to its stronger commitment to Middle East customers and was able to expand its customer base. He is furthermore a trainer for the ISFB (Geneva banks Training Institute) as well as a lecturer for several Master programs in 7 countries and a CFA Institute Retained Speaker. François is also a Board member of the Swiss CFA Society and member of the CFA Institute Professional Development Committee. He holds a MBA from the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and is a Certified Financial Analyst and Portfolio Manager (AZEK/CFPI), a NLP practitioner and a PADI Divemaster.
