SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) $264.46 USD Risk: Med Zacks ETF Rank 3 - Hold Fund Type Issuer Benchmark Index Large Cap ETFs STATE STREET GLOBAL ADVISORS S&P 500 INDEX SPY Sector Weights Date of Inception 01/29/1993 AUM (million) $262,418.37 Number of holdings in the ETF 507 Assets in top ten holdings 20.07% Expense Ratio 0.09% Dividend Yield 1.81% Price Chart Price Fundamentals of SPY Current Price $264.46 52-Week High $266.05 52-Week Low $219.15 NAV (11/30/2017) $257.13 1Yr ETF Ret (12/01/2017) 22.62% Risk Statistics Beta (against S&P 500) 1.00 Standard Deviation 12.50% R 2 96.26% Zacks Opinion The S&P 500 index has been in a great shape since Trump s win. His promise of fiscal reflation and deregulation along with an improving economy has made this possible. The recent earnings seasons have been better than the previous years. The earnings picture in fact has emerged stronger with multiyear high earnings and revenue growth, and beat ratios tracking above historical periods. Also, the Fed is stillaccomodative, pointing to a few more months of easy money inflows that could benefit equity investing. A rangebound greenback favored large-cap U.S. stocks with increased exposure in foreign economies. However, overvaluation concerns and uncertainty in Trump s proposed policies may prove to be a slight drag on the equity market. Key Points Largest and most actively traded US ETF Diversified exposure to large-cap US stocks Low expense ratio and trading costs Reasons to Buy Improving economy and a still-low interest rate environment Reasons to Sell Stocks look expensive, Uncertainty in Trump s proposed policies The data on the front page and all the charts in the report represent market data as of 12/01/2017, while the report's text is as of 11/24/2017

Holdings Breakdown SPY has proportionate exposure in almost all sectors with maximum emphasis on Information Technology. Sectors like Financials, Healthcare, and Consumer Discretionary also make up double-digit allocation. From an individual holdings perspective, it puts around 20.02% of the assets in the top 10 holdings. The holdings breakdown ensures that the ETF has low company as well as sector-specific concentration risk. The product puts almost all its assets in giant and large companies. Performance Global growth concerns, persistent worries in the oil patch, the Brexit decision in June 2016, and Fed tightening worries were overpowered by the Trump rally in the second half of 2016. This in turn helped the fund post substantial gains in the last one year. In fact, decent U.S. economic growth, reassuring earnings, the OPEC output cut deal in late 2016 and the Trump rally led the S&P 500 to hit several highs in the second half of 2016. Though uncertainty over the passage of presidential policies, overvaluation concerns and geopolitical risks led to occasional dips in SPY in 2017, overall momentum was upbeat. Overall, the fund has added about 16.2% so far this year and was up about 17.7% in the last one year (as of Nov 17, 2017). Class A 1.93% Johnson & Johnson 1.65% Investment Objective SPY seeks to match the performance and yield of the S&P 500 Index before fees and expenses. The performance of the S&P 500 Index is considered to be a mirror image of the U.S. equities, as the index represents stocks of the 500 most-valued companies in the U.S. Analysis This ETF is appropriate for investors seeking exposure to the U.S. markets with a focus on large-cap equities. It also offers a decent mix of value as well as growth stocks in its portfolio. The fund is highly liquid as it trades in massive volumes. The product is likely to be less volatile, given its extreme bias on large cap stocks. The ETF also enjoys a low tracking error. We recommend this product to long-term investors seeking safety of their investment. Detailed Analysis The key U.S. equity index S&P 500 had a stellar run in 2016, with a tumultuous first half being more than made up by an upbeat second half. Stocks witnessed an impressive start to Q3 of 2016 with the key U.S. indices hitting highs occasionally. If this was not enough, Trump s win did magic to equities. His indications of a tax overhaul, plans to beef up public spending by hundreds of billions of dollars on infrastructure, promise to lower corporate taxes and ease in regulations helped the broader market to skyrocket. Added to this, strong corporate earnings and hints of oil price recovery on the OPEC output cut deal did the trick. Investors should note that the S&P 500 companies are also expected to boost repurchases in 2017 as Trump plans to bring foreign cash back home. In his tax-reform proposal, Trump indicated that he will provide a repatriation holiday of 10%. So, lower tax rates and repatriation of cash could boost share repurchases by companies, which is a positive for stocks. Though the Fed is on a policy tigheing mode, subdued inflation and occasional growth worries kept investors cautious and bond yields remained low for the most part of 2017. This kept the value of the greenback rangebound. Investors should note that large-cap stocks perform better in a falling dollar environment as these have wide foreign exposure. Plus, foreign economies are looking up lately, making the case for large-cap investing even stronger. After gaining such heights in 2017, concerns over momentum loss or profit booking is quite expected at the current level. This is especially true given the prevailing confusion over the seamless passing of the much-awaited tax bill. But several investment banks and research houses came up with an upbeat outlook for the S&P 500. The S&P 500 earnings may shoot up considerably in 2018 if the tax reform is passed. However, uncertainty over the materialization of Trump s proposed policies can cause significant volatility in the market and the S&P 500 may slide. Geopolitical risks related to North Korea's missile launches can also play foul in the stock market. Still, for investors having a bullish view on the market over the long run, SPY should be considered as an appropriate option with a moderate level of risk. The fund is a safe bet thanks to its blend style and entire focus on large caps, which are less volatile than mid-and small-cap stocks. Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) IVV seeks to track the S&P 500 Index. The fund invests about $134.5 billion of assets in 506 holdings. Like SPY, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon take up the top three spots in IVV s portfolio. The fund charges an expense ratio of 0.04%. S&P 500 ETF (VOO) 11/24/2017 Like SPY and IVV, VOO also tracks the S&P 500 Index. The fund invests about $78.8 billion of assets in 507 holdings. Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet are the top three holdings. The fund has an expense ratio of 0.04%.
