Economics and Statistics Division of the State Planning Institute, Uttar Pradesh has been bringing out the brochure U.P. At A Glance (In Figures) in Hindi every year since 1991. To facilitate the users, English version of the brochure U.P. At A Glance (In Figures) 2009 is being brought out for the first time. The booklet contains two parts. First part of the brochure comprises the last year 2001-02 data concerned with the ninth plan period and recent two years available socioeconomic data of the State and in the second part, indicators of some important items related to U.P. have been compared with corresponding indicators at the national level. I am grateful to concerned departments of Central and State Governments, for their cooperation in publishing this edition. I am sure that the brochure will be found very useful by statisticians and all others concerned. Suggestions for its further improvement are most welcome.
