Cornhill provide an excellent service for clients wishing to invest in IPOs and placings which are not generally available through the large retail client stock brokers. The terms and discounts available are generally the same as those offered to institutional investors, furthermore the AIM quoted investment opportunities often qualify for EIS tax reliefs. I have participated in over 20 such IPOs and placings through Cornhill over the last 18 months, nearly all of which have qualified for EIS tax breaks which has allowed me to claim 1,000 s in income tax rebates. Cornhill s charges are transparent and the dealing team at Cornhill are courteous and knowledgeable offering a bespoke service to meet a client s individual needs. Initial public offerings IPOs An IPO is an Initial Public Offering which is when a company first offers shares in its company to the public. A placing may be planned in order to fund acquisition, provide greater working capital for organic expansion or to reduce debt. IPO s create new listed companies for investors and the injection of new capital into the markets helps to keep the financial markets running smoothly. An IPO may also be called a Float or New Issue and makes trading shares in the company significantly easier. Exchanges such as the London Stock Exchange (LSE) match buyers and sellers automatically and just require an order from market participants to buy or sell a specific quantity of stock. Shares in private companies may be difficult to sell at a reasonable price and in some circumstances, difficult to sell at any price. By floating, a company raises its profile and allows easier access to investors. However shareholders are not guaranteed a profit and the listing price may be lower than the issue price. Cornhill Capital have been involved in many IPOs over the years including government share sales. In some of these circumstances the government has offered incentives to encourage people to invest, such as discounts on the market price. If deemed suitable, we keep our clients informed on the latest and upcoming IPOs. Secondary market placings A secondary placing is when a company issues new stock for sale after it has previously made its IPO. A placing may be planned in order to fund an acquisition, provide greater working capital for organic expansion or to reduce debt. Most often the public will not be aware of a placing until it has been completed, this is because secondary placings are not available to the general investing public. Due to our relationships and contacts in the city, we are able to gain access to and offer these secondary placings to our clients who are deemed suitable, often at a discount to the price available in the market. CFD and margin trading A CFD is an agreement between two parties to settle, at the close of the contract, the difference between the opening and closing prices, multiplied by the number of underlying shares specified in the contract. CFD s are traded on margin. Margin trading has grown at pace over the past few years and enables clients to undertake multiple strategies when seeking capital growth or looking to safeguard portfolios against market falls. CFD s allow an investor to trade a greater number of instruments globally, long & short, through the use of margin as opposed to buying in cash, including: International stocks Global indices Commodities, FX and bonds The broking team at Cornhill Capital provide execution-only facilities to clients, where appropriate, for margin trading with CFDs and spread betting products.
