Finance Committee Recommendations for addressing the remaining deficit of $2,023,024 Wait until the final state budget is adopted to learn actual state aid amount. Adopt a budget with a 3.47% property tax levy increase instead of 6.47% as suggested on February 7 (3.47% increase requires a simple majority). Identify targeted program reductions/layoffs to help close part of the remaining budget deficit after the adoption of the state budget (by April 1). Appropriate additional monies from reserves to help close part of the remaining budget deficit. Do not close any schools this year and allow the Seversky/Hunt Facilities Use/Grade Configuration Study (recommendations to find $5 million in annual cost savings) to be completed in July 2013. Give an updated budget presentation at the March 28 Board of Education meeting. 22
