Wiring Your Operating Track Controller Powering the Operating Track Controller Use a separate accessory transformer to power your OTC, and be sure to set your transformer to 12-18 volts (AC). Figure 1 illustrates the location of the transformer terminals, labeled POWER. Follow these steps to connect your transformer to your OTC unit. Note! Color code all of the A and U power wires throughout your layout. 1. Attach one wire to the Common/Ground/U terminal of your transformer and connect it to the Power/U terminal on the OTC unit. Note! Do not connect this terminal to the outside rail 2. Attach another wire to the Power/A terminal of your transformer and connect it to the Power A terminal on the OTC unit. COMMAND BASE A/C POWER SUPPLY A U Comm Connections DAT (Red Wire) COM (Green Wire) Power Connections Common/Ground/U Power/A Figure 1. Power and Comm Connections 3

Wiring Your Operating Track Controller Connecting the COMM wires To receive your commands, the OTC will need to communicate with the Command Base. Messages from the Command Base are sent through the Command Base Cable (available separately, 6-14191 for a 6 cable or 6-14195 for a 20 cable). Follow these steps and refer to Figure 1 on page 3 to connect your OTC unit to the Command Base with the cable. Note! Your OTC is equipped with two additional COM terminals, AX + and AX-. At this time, leave these terminals empty. These are intended for future capabilities. Do not wire DAT and COMM wiring to the AX+ and AX- terminals. 1. Connect the DB9 Connector at the end of the Command Base Cable (the end that looks like a computer cable) to the COMPUTER terminal on the Command Base. 2. Connect the red wire at the other end of the Command Base Cable to the DAT terminal on the OTC unit. 3. Connect the green wire to the COM terminal on the OTC unit. 4

Wiring Your Operating Track Controller Connecting additional TMCC products in a daisy chain You may choose to power additional TMCC products using the same power supply and Command Base by creating a daisy chain, or a series of TMCC units wired in succession. Figure 2 on page 6 illustrates these connections. LED When in a daisy chain, the L.E.D. on the OTC will flash for a tenth of a second to indicate that the OTC is receiving commands for another TMCC product. The L.E.D. will stay on for half of a second to indicate that the OTC has received a command with an address it controls Power connections for additional units 1. Attach a white wire to the additional Power U terminal on the OTC unit and connect it to the Power U terminal on another product. 2. Attach a black wire to the additional Power A terminal on the OTC unit and connect it to the Power A terminal on another product. 3. Add any additional products in the same manner, connecting the Power U terminals and the Power A terminals. COMM connections for additional units 1. Attach a red wire to the DAT terminal of the OTC unit and connect it to the DAT terminal of the next TMCC product. 2. Attach a green wire to the COM terminal of your OTC unit and connect it to the COM terminal of the next product. 3. Add additional products in the same manner, connecting the DAT terminals and the COM terminals. 5

Controlling Operating Track sections Setting the OTC unit to control Operating Track sections To set the OTC unit as an Operating Track section controller, set the accessory ID# to 98. Follow these steps to set the ID#. 1. Remove the jumper from the side of the OTC unit. Refer to Figure 3 on page 8 for the location of the jumper 2. Press the ACC button on your CAB-1 Remote Controller. 3. Use the numeric keys to enter 98. 4. Press the SET button on the CAB-1 Remote Controller to set the number. LED The L.E.D. illuminates for one second. 5. Replace the jumper on the OTC unit. At this point, the OTC unit is ready to control your Operating Track section. 7

Controlling Operating Track sections Setting the Operating Track ID# s Your OTC unit will automatically assign all of the ID# s when you assign the first. Keep in mind that the OTC is capable of controlling up to two sections of Operating Track. When you assign an ID# to the section of track, the remaining section will automatically be set as the following number. If you have connected multiple OTC units to control more Operating Track sections, assign the first unit as ID# 1, the second OTC unit as ID# 3, the third as ID# 5, and so on, increasing the ID# by two. This will make the two sections of Operating Track connected to the first OTC ID# s 1-2, the two sections of Operating Track connected to the second OTC unit ID# s 3-4, and the two sections of Operating Track connected to the third OTC unit numbers 5-6. Note! The accessories do not have to be wired to the OTC unit to assign numbers to the terminals. 1. Remove the RUN/PROGRAM JUMPER on the side of the OTC unit. Pull the small black connector from the terminal at the side of the OTC unit. Refer to Figure 3 for the location of the jumper. 2. Press the ACC button on your CAB-1 Remote Controller. 3. Enter the ID# (1, 3, 5, etc.) on the CAB-1 Remote Controller numeric keypad. Keep in mind that you are essentially assigning only the first ID# of the two sections of Operating Track wired to the OTC. If you set ID# 1, you have set the two groups of terminals as numbers 1 and 2. 4. Press SET on your CAB-1 Remote Controller. LED The L.E.D. illuminates for one second. 5. Replace the RUN/PROGRAM JUMPER at the side of the OTC unit. 8 Figure 3. Jumper location

Controlling Operating Track sections Wiring your Operating Track sections with the OTC unit Wiring your Operating Track sections with your OTC is a simple task. Keep in mind that the OTC unit is capable of controlling up to two sections of Operating Track. Four wires connect each section of Operating Track to the OTC unit. These wires are attached to terminals that are labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the OPR (Operating Track) row on the OTC unit. As illustrated in Figure 4, simply attach four wires to the section of Operating Track and connect them to the terminals on the OTC unit. Be sure that each wire is connected to the OTC unit in the proper order, going from left to right: the first terminals are connected to each other, the second terminals are connected to each other, and so on. Figure 4. Wiring your Operating Track sections with the OTC unit 9

Controlling Operating Track sections Wiring your Operating Track sections with separate power supplies You may choose to power your Operating Track with a separate power supply. This will allow you to use the Operating Track when the power to the rest of the track is turned off. Figure 5 illustrates these connections. Note! The power supply used to power the Operating Track section CANNOT be used to power the OTC. 1. Attach a wire to the first terminal on the Operating Track section and connect it to the Common/Ground/U terminal on the separate power supply. 2. Attach an additional wire to the first terminal on the Operating Track section and connect it to the first terminal on the OTC unit. 3. Attach another wire to the second terminal on the Operating Track section and connect it to the second terminal on the OTC unit. 4. Attach another wire to the third terminal on the OTC unit and connect it to the Power/A terminal on the separate power supply. Note! Be sure to leave the third terminal on the Operating Track section empty. 5. Complete the wiring by attaching a final wire to the fourth terminal on the Operating Track section and connecting it to the fourth terminal on the OTC unit. Common/Ground/U Power/A Figure 5. Wiring your Operating Track sections with separate power supplies 10

Controlling Operating Track sections Controlling the Operating Tracks Use your CAB-1 Remote Controller to address the Operating Track section by pressing ACC and the ID# assigned to that section of Operating Track. Pressing AUX1 controls the uncoupling function, and pressing AUX2 powers the extra rails to operate the rolling stock. LED The L.E.D. illuminates for one half of a second to indicate that the OTC has received a command. Note! Pushing the HALT button (the red triangle) on your CAB-1 Remote Controller will immediately turn off all outputs on the OTC. Each output can be turned on again after the HALT button has been released. Use the HALT button only in emergency situations. 11

Controlling Uncoupling Track sections Setting the OTC unit to control Uncoupling Track sections To set the OTC unit as an Uncoupling Track section controller, set the accessory ID# to 99. Follow these steps to set the ID#. 1. Remove the jumper from the side of the OTC unit. Refer to Figure 6 on page 13 for the location of the jumper 2. Press the ACC button on your CAB-1 Remote Controller. 3. Use the numeric keys to enter 99. 4. Press the SET button on the CAB-1 Remote Controller to set the number. LED The L.E.D. illuminates for one second. 5. Replace the jumper on the OTC unit. At this point, the OTC unit is ready to control your Uncoupling Track section. 12

Controlling Uncoupling Track sections Setting the Uncoupling Track ID# s Your OTC unit will automatically assign both of the ID# s when you assign the first. Keep in mind that the OTC is capable to controlling up to four sections of Uncoupling Track using two ID# s. When you assign an ID# to the section of track, the remaining section will automatically be set as the following number. If you have connected multiple OTC units to control more Uncoupling Track sections, assign the first unit as ID# 1, the second OTC unit as ID# 3, the third as ID# 5, and so on, increasing the ID# by two. This will make the four sections of Uncoupling Track connected to the first OTC ID# s 1-2, the four sections of Uncoupling Track connected to the second OTC unit ID# s 3-4, and the four sections of Uncoupling Track connected to the third OTC unit ID# s 5-6. Note! The accessories do not have to be wired to the OTC unit to assign numbers to the terminals. 1. Remove the RUN/PROGRAM JUMPER on the side of the OTC unit. Pull the small black connector from the terminal at the side of the OTC unit. Refer to Figure 6 for the location of the jumper. 2. Press the ACC button on your CAB-1 Remote Controller. 3. Enter the ID# (1, 3, 6, etc.) on the CAB-1 Remote Controller numeric keypad. 4. Press SET on your CAB-1 Remote Controller. LED The L.E.D. illuminates for one second. 5. Replace the RUN/PROGRAM JUMPER at the side of the OTC unit. Figure 6. Jumper location 13

Controlling Uncoupling Track sections Wiring your Uncoupling Track sections with the OTC unit Wiring your Uncoupling Track sections with your OTC is a simple task. Keep in mind that the OTC unit is capable of controlling up to four sections of Uncoupling Track. Two wires connect each section of Uncoupling Track to the OTC unit. These wires are attached to terminals 1 and 2 in the UNC row on the OTC unit. As illustrated in the diagram, simply attach the pairs of wires to the section of Uncoupling Track and connect them to the terminals on the OTC unit. Be sure that each wire is connected to the OTC unit in the proper order, going from left to right. Figure 7. Wiring your Uncoupling Track sections with the OTC unit 14

Controlling Uncoupling Track sections Wiring Uncoupling Track sections with separate power supplies If your Uncoupling Track has only one terminal, or if you choose to power you Uncoupling Track with a separate power supply, follow these steps and refer to the diagram to wire your Uncoupling Track. This will allow the uncoupling function to operate independently of the track voltage. 1. Attach a wire to the first terminal on the OTC and connect it to the separate power supply. 2. Attach another wire to the outside rail and connect it to the separate power supply. 3. Attach a final wire to the second terminal on the OTC unit and connect it to the terminal on the Uncoupling Track. Common/Ground/U Power/A Figure 8. Wiring your Uncoupling Track sections with a separate power supply 15

Controlling Uncoupling Track sections Controlling the Uncoupling Tracks Two Uncoupling Tracks are assigned one accessory or ACC number. Pressing AUX1 controls one section of Uncoupling Track, and pressing AUX2 controls the other. Address the section of Uncoupling Track by pressing ACC and the ID# you assigned to that pair of Uncoupling Track sections on the CAB-1 Remote Controller. Press AUX1 to operate the first section of track, or press AUX2 to operate the second. 16
