The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) capacity building continued to be carried out under various components aiming to strengthen technical knowledge in sector planning and management. Institutional oversight to better govern the hydropower and mining sectors is continuing to improve. All critical technical assistance packages are under implementation many have been completed and several are near completion - to develop tools and management systems to enhance MEM oversight capacity. Despite such progress, there have been emerging issues facing the sectors which require further technical and financial support such as dam safety, power export strategy, power development planning, financial improvement, environmental and social sustainability of hydropower, effective execution and operationalization of policies, regulation, standards and tools etc. produced under the project. 11/12/2018 Page 1 of 9

IN00598057 Geoscience infrastructure mapping (Geophysics & Geology) in two selected areas (Text, Custom) On-track: Airborne survey was completed in February 2017. Geophysical and ArcGIS training has been provided to technical staff of DOM, DGM and PDEM in May 2017 Field geological mapping comprises two periods: 30 October December 16, 2017, and January 12 March 3,2018. No geodata GTK and IGS together with six trainees from DGM (including one from PDEM in Luangprabang) conducted first period of mapping. Training on the use of Defender tablet, Kapalo software (software to record rock observations including automated GPS coordinates, synchronized photos, rock observations/rock types etc) was provided to trainees. During the 1st phase of field work, 6 weekly field work reports have been submitted to DGM and DOM. Achieved: Field mapping in two selected areas financed by HMTA has been completed and results reported. Final deliverables & by products (100%) Second field mapping is currently implementing. Geological mapping is going on and planned to finish in early March. Thin sections and chemical analysis of the first mapping period have been prepared and are under further studies. In 2018, from January to date of the 2nd phase of field work, already 4 weekly field work reports have been reported to DGM and DOM. Final geophysical training is planned to be arranged sometime in May 2018. 11/12/2018 Page 7 of 9
