Interim Steering Committee, 2009-2011 Outcomes of the interim Steering Committee meetings 1. First meeting (27-29 October 2009, Geneva, Switzerland):Agreed to launch the Global Alliance at the 2010 extraordinary meetings ofthe Conference of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions; developed the key elements of plan of action to facilitate effective implementation of Global Alliance activities; and agreed to establish five Thematic Groups by March 2010 to address the challenges in achieving the Global Alliance goals. 2. Second meeting (19-21 May 2010, Delhi, India):Identified specific, priority activities to be undertaken by the five Thematic Groups; and planned for the first Assembly of the Global Alliance. 3. Third meeting (15-16 March 2011, Bonn, Germany):Reviewed the progress on the establishment of five thematic groups; and finalized the arrangements for the first Assembly of the Global Alliance.

First meeting of the Steering Committee, 2012 Outcomes: 1. Developed and approved the workplanand budget for the Global Alliance activities for 2012-2013 / 2014-2015 2. Workplansand budgets for the five thematic groups were adjusted and the thematic groups were requested to initiate their work 3. Four core activities were identified: (1) Translate all guidance and promotional documents into UN languages; (2)The work of the Steering Committee is made available to all stakeholders in an easily accessible format; (3)Comprehensive Demonstration projects are carried out in at least10 Parties with 2 from each region to evaluate problems, assess options and design and implement solutions; (4) The Steering Committee prepares a report for each Stockholm COP.
