Flight crewmember work expenses Description Transportation (including satellite/co-terminal transportation, which means you fly out of more than one airport) fees, including trip pass, parking, tolls, train, bus, etc., that did not involve overnight travel or commuting (travel from your home to your base). Non-commuting would include union meetings, training, etc. This usually applies more to spouses. Travel expenses while away from home overnight, including lodging for union meetings, training events, car rentals, etc. Training and upgrade expenses. Training and upgrade expenses at your home base are not deductible. # Of days in training, three letter code of training city, hotel expenses, transportation expenses, upgrade training expenses. Tips (Hotel van, maid service, shoe shine). Taxpayer amount Spouse amount ATM and currency exchange fees, check cashing fees on overnights. Meals & entertainment (only applies if we don t compute your per diem) (spouse usually). Uniform costs (unreimbursed) pants, shirts, belts, epaulets, jackets, overcoats, hats, sweaters, ties, wings, shoes, etc. Uniform upkeep (home laundering, laundry services, dry cleaning). Flight gear, luggage, logbook, passport, foreign visa, headset, earpiece, sunglasses, Jepp binders, alarm clock, tags, organizer, cockpit supplies (map), ID replacement, drug testing expenses, CFI renewal, etc. Union or Professional/Dues/Initiation Fees. FFDO Expenses, include: # of days in training, three letter code of training city, housing expenses, transportation expenses, range fees, equipment fees, permit fees, ammunition/target fees. Professional Publications (magazines, books). Education to maintain or upgrade skills. Office supplies, computers, cell phone, software and equipment (give month of purchase of computer or cell phone). WARNING, computers must be required by your company to deduct as an expense. Flight crewmember work expenses continued Description Temporary duty expenses, include: # of days away from home base, three letter code of TDY city, hotel expenses, transportation expenses. FAA Medical Expenses/Loss of License Insurance Commuter Pad Moving Expenses. If you had a base change, commuter pad moving expenses are deductible. The following are deductible: travel expenses, shipping expenses, lodging expenses, distance driven to transport belongings, date of move, old base three letter code, new base three letter code. National Guard/Military Reserve Duty. If your military base is not located at your home city or airline base, you can deduct travel, and living expenses while on duty at the military base overnight. Fill in the following: # of nights spent at base, three letter code of base, lodging expenses, transportation expenses, and phone expenses. Other Misc. (Flashlight, batteries, hairdryer, curler, Foreign visa, ID replacement, bid service, answering machine, portable smoke detector, company business cards, foreign language expenses, etc.) Taxpayer amount Spouse amount Per diem deduction information Where were you based in 2016? If your domicile changed during the year due to a job change or base change, please let us know where and when those base changes happened in the space below. We need precise dates of each time your domicile changed. We use EZPerDiem to calculate the per diem deduction for flight crewmembers. In order for us to maximize your return, we need you to provide us with your schedule for the year, showing your layover cities (three or four letter identifiers), and start and stop dates. If you want us to retrieve this information from your work, give us your login information, employee #, and password. If you cannot do that, please send us some form of your printed schedules for the 2016 tax year. If this is not possible, let us know, and we will find an alternative method to receive your layover information. Please provide instructions to access your employee login if you want us to access your account and get the data for you.

Vehicle Expenses Commuting for work is not deductible. Non-commuting travel would include TDY, union meetings, training, etc., away from hub and is deductible. Previous Tax Years If your previous years tax returns were not prepared by someone specializing in airline taxation, you may be able to claim an additional refund for those years. We can amend your previous years tax returns to capture the pilot and flight attendant deductions that may have been overlooked, resulting in a reduced refund amount. Electronic Filing If we file your return electronically (it s free and the fastest, most preferred method), we need you to sign and return to us a completed IRS form 8879. We will mail or email you a completed form 8879, and notify you with a phone call. Once we call you with the final numbers, we need you to either fax, scan and email, or mail us the completed and signed form. According to IRS regulations, we cannot file your return until we receive a signed and completed form 8879. State Specific Issues If you live (or lived) in one of the following states, we will possibly contact you for additional information CA, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IN, MA, MI, MN, MT, NH, NJ, NY, OH, VT. These states have special credits, deductions, taxes, and etc. that may apply to your return.
