Information Booklet What you need to know about NDB. About NDB NDB was established under an Act of Parliament in 1963. The Bank is owned by the Government of Botswana and operates under the control of a Board of Directors appointed by the Minister of Finance and Development Planning. NDB IS YOUR BUSINESS BANK NDB s main objective lies in providing a varied range of financial services to Botswana s business sector while aiming to earn satisfactory returns on shareholder s funds. As a Development Financial Institution (DFI), NDB is viable and self-sustaining. By providing growth in terms of job creation for example, NDB continues to contribute immensely to the growth of the local economy. NDB s business is directed towards the business community in whatever capacity whether they may be small, medium or large-scale enterprises and/or projects. In 1998, NDB became the first bank on the African continent to be certified under ISO 9001:2000 International Quality Standards. HOW DO I APPLY? Collect loan application forms from an NDB office near you (Gaborone, Francistown, Palapye and Maun) or phone these offices to send your application forms. You can also log on to www.ndb.bw GENERAL PARAMETERS *NOTE: The parameters, though general, are considered on a case-by-case basis. INTEREST RATE: Fixed and floating rates. Interest rates are negotiable, depending on the risk profile. REPAYMENT FREQUENCY: Depending on the project/client s repayment capacity, loans are payable monthly, quarterly; bi-annually or annually. EARLY REPAYMENT PENALTY INTEREST CHARGE: Maximum of one month interest as per Bank of Botswana Act Cap 55:01 LOAN ADMINISTRATION FEE STRUCTURE: (subject to review) LOAN SIZE UP TO P75, 000 1.5% P75, 001 P250, 000 1.25% P250, 000 P4, 000 000 1% OVER P4, 000, 000 0.5% LOAN FEE (% OF LOAN AMOUNT) +VAT For loans below P20 000, minimum loan fee is BWP 300 + VAT * OWNER S CONTRIBUTION/EQUITY: Minimum contribution of 15% of the total project cost to be spent on the project, either in cash or in-kind. LOAN REPAYMENT: 1 to 15 years, depending on the purpose and magnitude of the loan and the project s repayment/cash generation capacity. *GRACE PERIOD: The grace period must be justified by the project. The security may even come from other sources apart from the project s Project assets also form part of security. Movable assets: Livestock, agricultural machinery, industrial machinery and other forms of tangible valuable assets including publicly listed shares. Value on movable assets: 140% on forced sale value, (FSV). The Bank, however, has the direction to apply a location factor to the value provided. STRUCTURED FINANCE The bank can also offer a Structured Finance Package other SERVICES OFFERED BY THE BANK SELECTED PERFORMANCE BONDS Application and assessment is the same as for other loans. The difference is that funds are not disbursed. The performance bond is turned into a loan should the bank be required to pay for the client. INTERBANK GUARANTEE Application and assessment is same as for other loans. Could be considered if client requires overdraft facility with its banker, and is not granted on grounds of inadequate security. If his form of security is lodged with NDB, as first bondholder, NDB could guarantee the client s repayment record is satisfactory and entire operation is viable. LOAN RESCHEDULING NDB rehabilitates existing projects that prove to have the potential for survival and capacity to repay. Rescheduling will be done at the prevailing interest rates. AGRICULTURAL CREDIT GUARANTEE SCHEME (ACGS) Assist dry land farmers with NDB loans if the country is declared drought stricken. OTHER SERVICE CHARGES (Subject to review) Note: These charges are however negotiable, on a case-by-case basis. PERFORMANCE BOND FEE 2,5% to 5% + VAT, once-off payment upon approval of the facility. INTER-BANK GUARANTEE FEE 2,5% to 5% + VAT, once-off payment upon approval of the facility. RESCHEDULING FEE 0,25% to 1,5% on the amount rescheduled + VAT. EARLY REPAYMENT PENALTY The Bank charges early repayment penalty interest on amount repaid early.
