TIME USE IN OECD COUNTRIES Data sources Nationally representative time-use surveys for 26 OECD countries + China, India and South Africa 24-hour diary precisely records people s time allocation, using 5-1 minutes interval Period 1998-29 (latest available survey for each country) Weekdays and weekends

CONCLUSIONS Older adults (65+) spend about the same time to unpaid work as the working-age population, But the type of unpaid activities changes: they spend more time to routine housework and volunteering, and less time to caring for household members Older adults more often engage in volunteering, but those who volunteer devote slightly less time to it Women do more unpaid work than men in all countries, The gender gap remains after age 65, but decreases thanks to greater involvement of men in unpaid work
