FINAL TIMETABLE FOR THE NOVEMBER 2012 NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION 1. PURPOSE This Examination Instruction deals with the Final Timetable for the 2012 National Senior Certificate Examination. 2. LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORK 2.1. National Education Policy Act, 1996 (Act No.27 of 1996) 2.2. South African Schools Act, 1996 (Act No. 84 of 1996) 2.3. An addendum to the Policy document, the National Senior Certificate: A qualification at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) regarding Learners with Special Needs as published in the Government Gazette No. 29466, Volume 1266 of 11 December 2006 2.4. National Protocol on Assessment for Schools in the General Education and Training Band (Grades R 12) 21 October 2005 and Amendment as published in the Government Gazette No. 29467, Volume 498 of 11 December 2006 2.5. National Policy on the Conduct, Administration and Management of Assessment of the National Senior Certificate: A Qualification at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as published in the Government Gazette No. 30048, Volume 505 of 6 July 2008 2.6. Regulations pertaining to the Conduct, Administration and Management of assessment for the National Senior Certificate, published in the Government Gazette No. 31337, Volume 518 of 29 August 2008 2.7. Minimum Admission Requirements for Higher Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor s Degree Programmes requiring a National Senior Certificate, published in the Government Gazette No.31231, Volume 751 of 11 July 2008 2.8. National Curriculum Statements (NCS) Grades R 9 and 10 12 (General) 2.9. Any circular regarding the Conduct, Administration and Management of Assessment published by the Gauteng Department of Education. 3 EXAMINATION DATES AND PROCEDURES 3.1. The National Senior Certificate Examination has been scheduled to commence on 22 October 2011 and end on 28 November 2012. 3.2. In some instances two sessions are scheduled for each day. The morning session The morning session at 9:00 and the afternoon session will commence at 14:00 English: Page 3 of 11

3.3. Note that candidates must be prepared to write examinations that may need to be rewritten up to the last day of the school term. 3.4. Heads of institutions are requested to make the timetable available to the staff and Grade 12 learners. 3.5. Should the subjects or papers in the examination timetable clash, the following arrangements must be made: 3.5.1 Principals should notify the Director of examination and assessment in writing (Fax no: 011 355 0622) not later than 31 of August 2012. The following information must be provided. Name and the number of examination centre Name(s) of candidate(s) Date(s) and session(s) in question Subjects / papers concerned 3.5.2 The subject with most candidates at the centre will be written first and at the set time, according to the enclosed examination timetable. 3.5.3 At the end of the session the candidate(s) involved must be: separated immediately from the other candidates granted an opportunity to rest for an hour; and kept under close supervision during this period by an invigilator until the second session commences. 3.5.4 The candidate(s) must under no circumstances be granted access to any of telephone, or be allowed contact with other candidates or educators. 3.6 Arrangements for the practicals of the following subjects will be communicated separately: Design and Visual Art Music, Dance Studies and Dramatic Arts 3.7 The practical component of Technical and Services Subjects will be examined/moderated from July to October 2012.
