1 Adda247 No. 1 APP for Banking & SSC Preparation

Directions (1-5): Rearrange the following five sentences (A), (B), (C), (D) and (E) in the proper sequence to form a meaningful paragraph and then answer the questions given below. (A) the increase in the taxable income limit for rebate from Rs. 3.50 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh effectively means that many taxpayers with gross incomes of even a little over Rs. 8.35 lakh may not have to pay any tax at all, given the deductions for tax savings investments of Rs. 1.5 lakh, the additional deduction of Rs. 50,000 for National Pension System, (B) this year s Budget, which was largely expected to be a vote on account, without any changes in the tax law, surprised taxpayers by containing eight amendments, all of which are beneficial to taxpayers. (C) besides, taxpayers with taxable income in excess of Rs. 5 lakh would not benefit in any manner by the change in this rebate, and would continue to pay the tax as before. (D) the additional pleasant surprise was that, other than these eight proposals, all mentioned by finance minister Piyush Goyal in his Budget speech, there were no lurking surprises in the fine print of the law proposing the changes. (E) Rs. 75,000 for mediclaim premium, Rs. 10,000 for bank interest, and standard deduction of Rs. 50,000 for salaried employees. However, though no tax may be payable by such taxpayers, if their income is more than Rs. 2.5 lakh, they would still have to file a return of income. Q1. Which of the following will be the FIFTH sentence after the Q2. Which of the following will be the SECOND sentence after the Q3. Which of the following will be the FIRST sentence after the Q4. Which of the following will be the FOURTH sentence after the 2 Adda247 No. 1 APP for Banking & SSC Preparation

Q5. Which of the following will be the THIRD sentence after the Directions (6-10): Rearrange the following five sentences (A), (B), (C), (D) and (E) in the proper sequence to form a meaningful paragraph and then answer the questions given below. (A) Under the scheme, Rs. 6,000 per year will be provided to farmers holding cultivable land of up to two hectares. This has been done because the government is aware that the smaller the land holding, the greater the need for financial support. (B) The States have to upload the data of the beneficiaries on the portal. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will transfer the benefit directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries. (C) The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, announced in the Interim Budget, is the biggest scheme launched by the Government of India till date for providing structured support to small and marginal farmers. (D) This is a Central Sector Scheme and will be funded fully by the Government of India. The guidelines of the scheme have been issued. The government has developed a portal for managing the scheme which has gone live. (E) The amount will be credited into the account of the beneficiary within 48 hours of its release by the government. Q6. Which of the following will be the FIFTH sentence after the Q7. Which of the following will be the SECOND sentence after the Q8. Which of the following will be the FIRST sentence after the 3 Adda247 No. 1 APP for Banking & SSC Preparation

Q9. Which of the following will be the FOURTH sentence after the Q10. Which of the following will be the THIRD sentence after the Directions (11-15): Rearrange the following five sentences (A), (B), (C), (D) and (E) in the proper sequence to form a meaningful paragraph and then answer the questions given below. (A) Without productive and dependable employment for the vast majority of a country s workforce, economic growth either remains elusive, or its benefits end up concentrated among a tiny minority. (B) It is typically a stable formal-sector position that comes with core labour protections such as safe working conditions, collective bargaining rights, and regulations against arbitrary dismissal. (C) The scarcity of good jobs also undermines trust in political elites, adding fuel to the authoritarian, nativist backlash affecting many countries today. (D) Around the world today, the central challenge for achieving inclusive economic prosperity is the creation of sufficient numbers of good jobs". (E) The definition of a good job obviously depends on a country s level of economic development. Q11. Which of the following will be the FIFTH sentence after the Q12. Which of the following will be the SECOND sentence after the 4 Adda247 No. 1 APP for Banking & SSC Preparation

Q13. Which of the following will be the FIRST sentence after the Q14. Which of the following will be the FOURTH sentence after the Q15. Which of the following will be the THIRD sentence after the Directions (16-20): Read the following passage and answer the questions as directed. Monthly measurement of the unemployment rate is one of the requirements of the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The SDDS India was one of the early signatories was (A). in 1996 to help countries access the international capital markets by providing adequate economic and financial information publicly. India complies with many requirements of the SDDS, but it has taken an exception with respect to the measurement of unemployment. The Government of India does not produce any measure of monthly unemployment rate, nor does it have any plans to do so. Official plans to measure unemployment at an annual and quarterly frequency is in a shambles. This does not befit India s claims to be the fastest growing economy and as the biggest beneficiary of a famed demographic dividend. The Centre for Monitoring India Economy (CMIE), a private enterprise, (B).. that fast frequency measures of unemployment can be made and that seeking an exception on SDDS compliance is unnecessary. Q16. As per the passage, how can the establishment of SDDS help countries access the international capital markets? (a) by providing adequate social and financial information publicly (b) by providing adequate economic and cultural information publicly (c) by providing adequate economic and political information publicly (d) by providing adequate economic and financial information publicly (e) None of the Above 5 Adda247 No. 1 APP for Banking & SSC Preparation

Q17. Which of the following can replace the word 'befit' given in bold in the passage? (a) differ (b) suit (c) disagree (d) curb (e) Both (a) and (b) Q18. Which of the following words can fill in the blank in (A) to make it meaningful? (a) figure (b) create (c) habitual (d) established (e) None of the above Q19. Which of the following words is opposite in meaning to the word given in bold in the passage above? SHAMBLES (a) Harmony (b) Disarray (c) Muddle (d) Both (a) and (c) (e) Chaos Q20. Which of the following phrases can suitably fit in the blank given in (B) to make it grammatically and contextually correct? (a) has demonstrate over the past three years (b) has demonstrated over the past three years (c) have demonstrated over the past three years (d) having demonstrated over the past three years (e) None of the Above Directions (21-25): Read the following passage and answer the questions as directed. Specifically, India s female labour participation rate is very low. Official statistics have always shown that India s female labour participation rate is low and falling. Researchers have shown that this fall is because of rising household incomes that reduce the need for women to join the labour force; increased enrolment in higher education by women which delays their entry into the labour force, and cultural and security factors that keep women away from the labour market in India. Further, it is evident that employers are also biased against hiring women. The CPHS shows that the situation with respect to women s participation in the labour force is extremely poor (A)... The entire brunt of demonetisation was borne by women. Their labour participation fell sharply while that of men did not. 6 Adda247 No. 1 APP for Banking & SSC Preparation

After the demonetisation jolt came the Goods and Services Tax shock of July 2017 that drove away small enterprises which could not compete in a tax-compliant environment out of business. This caused a substantial loss of jobs. Preliminary estimates suggest that employment shrunk by 11 million in 2018. The brunt of this was again borne largely by women. But men too were also impacted. Male labour participation rate was 74.5% in 2016. This dropped to 72.4% in 2017 and then to 71.7% in 2018. In contrast, female labour participation was as low as 15.5% in 2016 which dropped to 11.9% in 2017 and then 11% in 2018. Urban female labour participation rates fell faster than rural female participation. In urban India it dropped from 15.2% in 2016 to 10.5% in 2018. The corresponding values for rural women were 15.6% and 11.3%, respectively. Q21. Which of the following statements is/are correct as per the passage above? (a) Male labour participation rate was 78.5% in 2016. (b) India s female labour participation rate is very low (c) Urban female labour participation rates fell faster than rural female participation. (d) Both (b) and (c) (e) All are correct Q22. In the passage above, two lines are given in bold. In the lines a phrase is used, i.e., 'bear the brunt of' in context of the passage. What is the meaning of this phrase? (a) To enjoy the best part of an unpleasant or problematic situation. (b) To suffer the worst part of an unpleasant or problematic situation. (c) To support someone in an unpleasant or problematic situation. (d) To get good results for your hardwork. (e) Both (b) and (c) Q23. What are the reasons for the fall in India s female labour participation rate in context of the passage? (a) Rising household incomes (b) Increased enrolment in higher education by women ultural and Security factors (d) Employers are also biased against hiring women. (e) All are correct Q24. Which of the following phrases can suitably fit in the blank given in (A) to make it grammatically and contextually correct? (a) much poorer then what the official agencies tell us (b) much poorer than who the official agencies tell us (c) much poorer than what the official agencies telling us (d) much poorer than what the official agencies tell us (e) None of the Above Q25. Which of the following can replace the word 'jolt' given in bold in the passage? (a) shocking (b) surprise (c) impacted (d) disadvantage (e) Both (b) and (c) 7 Adda247 No. 1 APP for Banking & SSC Preparation
