www.unb.ca/retirees The UNB Retiree Fall 2017 Page 2 UNBREA Winter Meeting Our speaker is Dr. Gary Irwin-Kenyon the founding Chair and Professor, Gerontology Department, St. Thomas University, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. He is also a teacher and practitioner of Tai Chi with more than thirty years experience. We will meet Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in McConnell Hall, Fredericton Campus. Coffee will be available from 10:00 and Gary will speak at 10:30, discussing his recent book Pathways to Stillness, he tells us: This book is about stillness: What it is. How you can find it. Where it hides itself. Why it is necessary to your life. Learn how stillness can change our view of what it means to lose and regain the sense of our story in the midst and aftermath of loss, as well as our commonly shared misconception of the nature of time and how we usually experience it. Learn also how our negative beliefs about aging can be made more positive. This book is also about learning to appreciate wandering or meandering along life s pathways. It does not contain Six Easy Steps to Wisdom and Immortality. Rather, it offers a way to approach your journey, which you then create and discover on your own, with help! You are invited to find a Pathway to Stillness that fits your life.

www.unb.ca/retirees The UNB Retiree Fall 2017 Page 4 History of Information Technology (HIT) at UNB The web site with the material collected by the small group is located at: hit.lib.unb.ca. There nearly 20 video interviews of some of the movers and shakers of IT at UNB. Have a look at them! They were originally intended to provide an oral account of the development of Computer Science, Computer Center, and Computer Services from 1967 to 2000. However they have turned out to be a rich insight into UNB during that period. People from both campuses, such as Fritz Grein, Robert Burridge, and Barry Beckett talk about themselves and what was going on at UNB at that time. There are many interesting pieces on the CURAC Newsletter at: www.curac.ca including Taking the Pulse of Seniors Health Care in 2016 by our member and chair of CURAC s Health Care Policy Committee - Linda Kealey This September there were 292 members. in the UNBREA. Based on the numbers retiring each year, membership should be closer to 350. Please encourage people you know who have retired to join. If you have any ideas for increasing the membership let anyone on the executive know. At the AGM: By-law changes were approved to specify the term for executive offices at two years. Communications was added to the standing committees and voting was specified as a show of hands.
