NATIONAL ADAPTATION PLAN GLOBAL SUPPORT PROGRAMME: SUPPORTING LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES TO ADVANCE NATIONAL ADAPTATION PLANS

FLOW OF INFORMATION ALONG THE NAP PROCESS

ABOUT NATIONAL ADAPTATION PLAN GLOBAL SUPPORT PROGRAMME (NAP-GSP) PARTNERSHIP UNDP, UNEP, The GEF Secretariat, UNFCCC, WHO, Global Water Partnership, FAO, IFAD, UNISDR and UNITAR to assist LDCs with NAPs. ON DEMAND SUPPORT in response to requests for support from LDCs - to achieve medium- to long-term planning for adaptation that is fully integrated into relevant policy and planning processes. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE advisory support, targeted training, promoting dialogue, partnership building, and supporting knowledge exchange, among national stakeholders in LDCs and other countries. LEVERAGE FINANCE support for identification, financing and implementation of adaptation measures by LDCs at national, sub-national and local levels to ensure sustainability of institutional country-driven efforts. BROKER KNOWLEDGE promoting the best available science, experiences and good practices to achieve the integration of climate change risks/opportunities into existing development plans and budgets. NAP-GSP is not providing allocations of financial resources to countries, nor implementing NAP activities

LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES (LDCs) WHICH HAVE REQUESTED SUPPORT FROM NAP-GSP Least Developed Countries (LDCs) LDCs which have officially requested to NAP-GSP and already received ongoing one-on-one support and mobilization for targeted technical assistance LDCs which have not requested support yet

OVERVIEW NAP-GSP AND PARTNERS ACTIVITIES TO DATE HIGHLIGHTS OF ONGOING SUPPORT Technical review of Burkina Faso NAP Support for laying the groundwork for the NAP process - Niger, Lesotho, Benin, Comoros and Nepal Inputs to NAP road-map outline in Bangladesh Stock-taking of strengthening sectoral planning adaptation linkages for NAP process in Cambodia (with GIZ) Initial discussions - entry points for NAP in national planning processes in Gambia In country missions are going to take place during May - June, 2014 in Niger, Timor Leste, Lao PDR, Tanzania, Sudan, Senegal, and Bhutan.

OVERVIEW OF NAP-GSP AND PARTNERS ACTIVITIES TO DATE TECHNICAL SUPPORT Sept 2013 March 2014 Developing work plans and identifying appropriate tools, resource material and case studies and training institutions relevant for NAP training Coordinating with countries to ensure participants from Ministries of Environment, Planning and Finance and key government institutions participate in regional technical trainings HIGHLIGHTS OF ONGOING SUPPORT NAP-GSP Regional training for policy makers from eight Asian LDCs in Feb 2014 Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Lao PDR, Nepal, and Yemen NAP-GSP Regional Training for African Anglophone countries in April 2014. NAP-GSP Regional Training for African Francophone countries in April 2014 A User Companion Document to support NAP development with PROVIA UNITAR E-introduction to the NAP process a Thematic interviews with LDCs to get their views on potential entry points of the NAP GSP in their countries.
