National Career and Technical Education Month Whereas, today s cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant Career and Technical Education prepares young people for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, highdemand careers and whereas in February 2017, we are recognizing these opportunities for career success offered in our six districts. Whereas, investing in Career and Technical Education yields big returns for state economies as students are prepared for careers reporting shortages in qualified workers, including manufacturing and other occupations with the largest numbers of new jobs. Whereas, students in the Compact s 26 College Tech Prep Initiatives are prepared to be college and career ready to apply their problem-solving, collaborative, critical thinking and analytical skills and to earn college credits while still in high school. Whereas, Career and Technical Education increases student achievement by incorporating highly rigorous academic coursework with real-world experiences in labs, in internships and in job shadowing experiences. Now, therefore, I, Phillip T. Herman, serving as Superintendent of Hudson City Schools, do hereby proclaim February 2017, as National Career and Technical Education Month.
