LAFOURCHE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD INTRODUCTION The Board is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana. It was created under Louisiana Revised Statute (LRS) 17.51 for the purpose of providing free public education for the children within Lafourche Parish. The Board is authorized by (LRS) 17:81 to establish polices and regulations for its own government that are consistent with the laws of the State of Louisiana and the regulations of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. The school board is comprised of 15 members who are elected from 15 districts for a term of four years. The Board operates 29 non-charter schools within the parish with a total enrollment for fiscal year 2018 of 13,459 pupils and 2 charter schools with a total enrollment of 916. In conjunction with the regular educational programs, some of these schools offer special education and/education programs. Additionally, the school board provides transportation and school food services for the students. Effective September 1, 1992, no invoices may contain a charge of any sales taxes. According to the latest statement for the Louisiana Department of Revenue and Taxation the same regulations apply to the individual schools.
