The Ins and Outs of Domestic Asset Protection Trusts This presentation will discuss Michigan s new Qualified Dispositions in Trust Act, which became effective on February 5, 2017. This Act allows for what are commonly known as Domestic Asset Protection Trusts (DAPTs). Michigan became the 16 th state to allow for DAPTs. Now it s possible for Michigan residents to create irrevocable trusts for their own benefit while still protecting the trust property from the grantor s creditors. The presenter will discuss design features, including trustee selection; selecting the best candidates for establishing a DAPT; the estate, gift and income tax consequences of DAPTs; why DAPTs are good ILITs; and a comparison of Michigan s DAPT statute with those of other states. Financial Strategies to Achieve Client Objectives, 2 nd Edition, Revised Increase your knowledge and understanding of the issues and tools involved in helping individuals accumulate and preserve financial assets. Special attention is paid to understanding client needs and goals at various stages in life, and understanding the strategies, products, and techniques to help the client achieve their goals and objectives. Specific focus will include determining needs and objectives; saving and accumulation techniques; risk and risk management; and asset allocation. (4-hour class; also approved by CFP Board for 4 hours and by IMCA for 4 hours of CE credit) (Approved for only 1- hour of CE credit in Texas) Planning for Post-Retirement The word senior is not only associated with freedom from the necessity to work, but also with worries about health care, maintaining one s life style, and leaving a legacy. Financial advisers often think about helping clients build their net worth and accumulate assets for retirement. Unfortunately, that s often where advisors stop. Once clients retire, they will rely on their adviser more than ever to solve problems not anticipated in previous years. This course will briefly cover the risks clients face in post-retirement, and offer topics for research which will help advisors distinguish themselves as experts in this often overlooked phase of financial planning. (2-hour class; also approved by CFP Board for 2 hours)

Derek Dalling is the President & CEO of Kindsvatter, Dalling & Associates. He joined the firm in 1998 after several years of service as a staff member in the Michigan Legislature. Mr. Dalling began his career in 1995 with the Michigan House of Representatives. His campaign and political knowledge led him to work in one of the most competitive districts. Today, Mr. Dalling serves as executive director of several statewide associations in Michigan and the Midwest and a national association. He also remains active politically lobbying for several issues. Legislatively, Mr. Dalling focuses on everything from transportation and environment issues to regulatory and insurance to health policy and agriculture issues and everything in between. Jay Hewitt will get you to your Finish Line. An elite Ironman triathlete, Jay is the only person with Type 1 diabetes to race for the U.S. National Triathlon Team. He balanced years of grueling physical triathlon training, racing and world travel, managing his blood sugar and hourly insulin dosage, and maintaining a demanding full-time law practice. In 2004, he began public speaking while racing and practicing law. After numerous engagements and repeated requests, he followed his passion and launched a full-time professional speaking career in 2011. His balance of work, life and pursuit of goals has taken remarkable focus and discipline, converting physical and mental challenges into motivation for success. That is exactly the message he shares with rapt audiences all over the world. Jay s principles translate perfectly into life as well as business, inspiring improvement in everyone from leadership and management to everyday employees, from athletes and non-athletes to students and adults.
