THE SPEAKERS CHAIRPERSON DEBORAH HALL Deborah Hall is a professional TV presenter, broadcaster and journalist. She presented Newsroom South East, Business Breakfast on BBC1 and was a news anchor on BBC World. She presented The Law Channel and The Accountants Channel for the Einstein Network and presents The Surveyors, Civil Engineers and Architects Channels for RIBA. In Presentation and Media training, Deborah s current clients are Unilever, Coca-Cola, Barclaycard, Ofcom, the FA, BBC, BT and the London Insurance Market. She is an Associate of The King s Fund and media consultant to Bill Gates/WHO s worldwide programme to vaccinate the poor. She has chaired many insurance conferences, including, since 1995, the annual Professional Indemnity Forum and Liability Underwriters Group Conferences in Cambridge. PRESENTERS ADRIAN BALLARDIE Adrian Ballardie is a manager for QBE European Operations in the property department and has been involved in the oversight of different projects including providing support for new business initiatives, including risk and catastrophe aggregation within the property department. He is qualified (re)insurance professional (ACII, Chartered Insurance Practitioner, Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and accredited mediator for ARIAS, (the Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society). He has a wealth of experience in the London Market, and have experience in underwriting casualty, construction and direct and facultative property business, as well as treaty property business. I have also managed international facultative property and treaty business. ANDREW BANDURKA Andrew Bandurka is a partner in Holman Fenwick Willan. He specialises in Insurance, Reinsurance and broker s Professional Negligence dispute resolution. His practice combines expert legal knowledge with business acumen, having had direct experience of working within both the insurance and aviation industries. He has specialised for many years in insurance and reinsurance coverage issues and professional indemnity disputes, domestic and international, and drafting policy wordings. He has a long history in dealing with very complex re/insurance claims, in particular with claims aggregation and reinsurance follow the settlements issues, ranging from Piper Alpha, the Kuwait invasion, World Trade Centre terrorist attacks, Exxon Valdez oil spill, and various wildfires. JING CHEN Dr Jing Chen a Lecturer in Finance in the school of business and economics at the University of Swansea. She holds degrees of BSc in Computer Science (China), MSc in Finance Investment (Aberdeen) and PhD in Finance (Aberdeen). Her Phd is on the Financial Stability and Microstructure of Financial Markets in terms of equity markets, bond markets and spillover effects between markets and segments. She is also interested in theory based empirical research covering portfolio optimization and asset pricing modeling.
DOM DEL RE Dom del Re is Associate Director in the Actuarial & Insurance Management department of PwC. From the London office, Dom leads the Catastrophe Risk Management practice, having joined the company in February 2011. Prior to that, he spent five years in a senior role at Risk Management Solutions. At PwC, he leads client engagements advising companies on catastrophe risk management and the frameworks required to support the use of external models. He is a chartered civil engineer and his experience includes nat cat model development and 7 years working in the infrastructure and construction sectors. ALAN HAWKES Professor Alan Hawkes specialises in Applied Stochastic Modelling at the University of Swansea. His work in point process theory saw the introduction of a class of processes, which have become a standard feature of that branch of study and are known in the literature as Hawkes Processes. While these form a small part of a broad subject, they have some lasting significance theoretically and have continuing applications in various areas, including earthquake modelling and stock market transactions. PETER HIRST Peter Hirst is a partner in Clyde & Co. in the dispute resolution practice. He has a wide variety of experience in the area of commercial litigation, arbitration and also alternative disputes resolution procedures and strategies. He is an accredited CEDR mediator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a registered foreign lawyer at the Brazilian Bar (OAB). He has acted in litigation and arbitration in nearly 50 international jurisdictions in the Far East, Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa, US and South America. PAUL MAY Paul May is Chairman of Concordia Consultancy Ltd, which provides claims adjusting, compliance, dispute resolution and risk consultancy services from companies around the world. He is a Chartered Loss Adjuster, a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management, holds a Law degree, an MBA and has completed post graduate diplomas in Advanced Insurance Studies and Management Consultancy. He has worked on assignments in over 60 countries around the world including catastrophe claims and audits arising from hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, tornados, terrorism, and flood. Most recently he has been leading a Concordia team in Bangkok involved in the management of multi-national claims of some US$5bn arising from the Thai floods. He has been President of CILA (the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters), FUEDI (the European Association of Loss Adjusting Experts). PAUL MOSS Paul Moss is managing director of Xecute (Partners) Ltd, a reinsurance services boutique offering a claims management advisory service to the alternative reinsurance and insurancelinked securities markets. He is also a managing director in the insurance consultancy practice of FTI Consulting Inc, the global business advisory firm dedicated to helping organisations protect and enhance their enterprise value; and is Director for International Business Development for North American Risk Services, a U.S. domiciled TPA. He is an ARIAS UK Panel Arbitrator. He has 35 years of reinsurance executive experience and during that time served as Head of Claims for Montpelier Re, QBE European Operations and AXA Corporate Solutions.
NICK ROENNEBURG Nick Roenneburg is the Head of Claims Management and Consulting at Munich Re and is responsible for Global Claims, Corporate Claims and Business-Runoff. Since 1981, He has held positions within Munich Re internationally, initially as Casualty Underwriter to become Head of Casualty Claims in Munich and Head of Casualty Underwriting US Branch in New York. His specialties are in Casualty Business worldwide. JULIAN WARD Julian Ward is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Through his own consultancies JTW Connect Ltd and formerly JTW Reinsurance Services Ltd he has for the past 20 years provided strategic management and reinsurance auditing services to the international insurance and reinsurance industry out of offices in London and Boston, and most recently Spain. Prior to that for ten years he worked with a similar specialist consultancy setting up the provision of reinsurance auditing and collection services in London and then New York.
