Continued from Question #2 Northumberland Arts (now a program of Northumberland 89.7 FM and located at 8 Queen St., has been active in Port Hope now for over 20 years. Until May 2018, Northumberland Arts operated as the Port Hope Gallery Shop of the Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN). In 1998 the AGN opened its first branch outside of Victoria Hall, Cobourg. This established their presence in Port Hope and related to an expanded (County wide) mandate -This was the most significant step in the history of the AGN with respect to meeting its 1983 expanded mandate: to promote and encourage activities in the visual, performing, musical and liberal arts and to serve as a resource centre in matters related to the visual arts. Effective May 2018 the AGN closed its Port Hope operations. The 20 volunteers determined to carry on their mission and approached N897 for their support. Northumberland Arts supports local artists and artisans through the sale of their work and through exhibitions, one wall of the shop, up to 10 a year. NA looks to expand their activities through workshops, one in 2018, and expanded venues in the coming year.
