Welcome to our range of fully researched funds Aviva Select Funds are a range of researched funds that take some of the hard work out of investment selection for you. The Aviva Investors multi-manager research team assesses, selects and monitors the active components of this range of funds. The team chooses a number of funds they feel will stand out from their peers and offer the best potential for investors across a broad range of sectors or markets. Aviva chooses the passive funds based on a smaller range of criteria. The selection process includes a due diligence review by the Aviva Investors team. As well as meeting the required due diligence standards, the process aims to deliver the most costeffective solution for you and your clients. Alongside the Select Funds range, we also show funds managed by Aviva Investors. These funds sit in the same sector or market as the Aviva Select Funds and are also actively managed by expert fund managers, but they don t share the same selection process. These funds haven t been subject to the Aviva Investors 7Ps process due to conflicts of interest. You can find out more about this in the Fund Centre on Aviva for Advisers. Please bear in mind that past performance is not a guide to future returns. The value of your client s investment can fall as well as rise and they may not get back the amount they invested. 2

Aviva Select Funds the passive funds The Aviva Investors multi-manager team says Aviva chooses the passive funds based on a smaller range of criteria. The selection process includes a due diligence review by the Aviva Investors team. As well as meeting the required due diligence standards, the process aims to deliver the most cost-effective solution for you and your clients. On this basis, Aviva currently uses for all elements of the passive range. s products cover a wide range of asset classes including, bonds, alternatives and some mixed asset indices. Within each of these categories, they offer products that are diversified across a range of countries (such as overseas bond trackers) and region-specific products (such as Japanese equity trackers). makes use of four different passive management techniques, depending on the underlying market: Full replication - buying every constituent instrument within the index Optimisation - for large and unconstrained indices, this means buying a subset of index constituents Stratified sampling - splitting the index into different categories, and choosing investments that best mimic the performance of these categories Intelligent rebalancing - for some fixed income funds, the index is fully replicated, but with discretion around rebalancing timing. Our belief is that full replication is the superior method, since the potential for tracking error is low. prefers to use full replication where possible, and the huge volume of assets it manages makes this economically viable. uses securities lending to generate extra revenue, 62.5% of which is paid back into the funds. s funds have historically achieved very low tracking error figures relative to index, partially due to using full replication wherever possible.
