The Institutional Strengthening component is complete and civil works contracts are very advanced with the majority of contracts completed. The mid-term review indicated surveyed beneficiaries as having a high degree of satisfaction with the project, with positive benefits and impacts in economic terms (tourism, business, marketing, health, education, Page 1 of 5
mobility, road safety and improved maintenance regimes). At the request of the Provincial and Federal Governments, a US$30 million Additional Financing Loan was prepared to address cost overruns of the project. However, due to other priorities at the federal level, this loan has been dropped in June 2011.
