Your ANZ KiwiSaver Scheme Account Statement Here's an explanation of the terms you may see on your ANZ KiwiSaver Scheme Account Statement: Accruals The amount of tax (payable)/refundable as at the Closing Balance date, plus any applicable management fee rebates. Accrued tax change The movement in tax payable (or refundable) between the Opening Balance and Closing Balance dates. It is not tax actually paid. Administration fees A monthly fee that covers the day-to-day administration of your account. Balance The value of your investment, calculated by multiplying the number of units held in the fund by the unit price, plus or minus any accruals. Employer's contributions Contributions paid by your employer. Generally, the minimum employer contribution is 3% of your gross salary and wages. It was 2% up until 31 March 2013. Government kick-start A one-off lump sum payment of $1,000 from the government, paid when you first join KiwiSaver. Investment return The gains or losses made when the assets, in which a fund invests, change in value and/or earn income, less fees and expenses. The investment return will generally be different from the income on which tax is paid, which is shown as 'PIE taxable income' in your annual Tax Certificate. Lifetimes investor If you have selected the Lifetimes option, your contributions are invested into a designated fund for your age. As you get older and reach the next age range, your savings move to a different fund. Member tax credits An annual government contribution of 50c for each $1 you contribute, up to a maximum of $521.43 a year (subject to certain eligibility criteria). Net tax (paid)/refunded Your net tax liability or refund. A net tax liability is deducted from your investment by cancelling units (shown in brackets). A net tax refund is allocated to your investment to purchase additional units. Net tax (paid)/refunded includes any PIE tax relating to 31 March of the previous tax year. Portfolio Investment Entity (PIE) A company, superannuation fund, unit trust, or group investment fund registered with Inland Revenue to allow tax on investment income at the prescribed investor rate of its investors, rather than at its own tax rate. PIEs also have different rules regarding what is, and isn't, taxable. Prescribed investor rate (PIR) The investor's tax rate for PIE income, which is the rate a PIE uses to calculate and pay tax on that investor's taxable income. If you have not advised us of your PIR and IRD number, the default rate of 28% has been applied. Please note, the PIR shown at the top of your tax certificate is the current PIR that we have recorded for you. If this is not correct, please contact us. Units A share of a fund; units are purchased when contributions are made to your account. Unit price The price for each unit in the fund. Fund values are calculated by adding the market value of the investments, plus any other assets, less liabilities. The amount is then divided by the number of units in the fund. Withdrawals Any withdrawals made from your account and transfers to another KiwiSaver scheme provider. This includes withdrawals made for first home purchase or on retirement. Your contributions Contributions deducted from your salary or wages or any voluntary contributions made by you (or on your behalf) to your account. NOTES Returns will fluctuate over time and it is possible you might not receive back all the capital you invested. Past performance is not a guarantee of future performance. Investment balances are subject to rounding. Any graphs are for illustrative purposes only. You do not need to file a tax return for this investment. If the IRD number is not recorded or is incorrect, please contact us to update your details. If the PIR in the Account Tax Summary is correct or higher than your correct PIR, the tax paid on your investment is final. You do not need to file a tax return for this investment. If the PIR in the Account Tax Summary is lower than your correct PIR, you will need to file a tax return and include the income/(loss) on this investment. Any tax already paid will be available as a tax credit. NZ tax resident trustees of trusts (excluding charities) who have notified a PIR of less than 28% are required to include PIE income in their tax return. Only trustees who have chosen a PIR of 0% can include losses in their trust's tax return. Please seek independent tax advice if you are uncertain of your tax position. Please check your PIR is correct. Visit anz.co.nz/pirupdate to update your details. Your Tax Certificate The following is an explanation of the terms you may see on your Tax Certificate. Gross tax (payable)/refundable Your gross tax (payable)/refundable is PIE taxable income/(loss) multiplied by your PIR. For example, if your PIE taxable income is $100 and your PIR is 28%, your gross tax payable will be $28. Net tax (paid)/refunded Your net tax liability or refund. A net tax liability is deducted from an investment fund by cancelling units (shown in brackets). A net tax refund is allocated to an investment by purchasing additional units. For 31 March PIE tax, the transaction to cancel or purchase units is processed through your account with the date of 1 April. PIE taxable income/(loss) Your share of taxable income/(loss) based on the number of units you hold in the investment fund. This includes any fees and applicable rebates. Taxable income is calculated in accordance with income tax legislation and will generally be different from the investment return shown in your Account Statement. Tax credits New Zealand and foreign tax credits may be available to you based on the number of units you hold in the investment fund. If the value is positive, this will either reduce your tax payable or increase your refund. If the value is negative (shown in brackets), this will result in an additional tax liability that will either increase your tax payable or reduce your refund. Units A share of a fund; units are purchased when contributions are made to your account. NOTES Returns will fluctuate over time and it is possible you might not receive back all the capital you invested. Past performance is not a guarantee of future performance. Investment balances are subject to rounding. Any graphs are for illustrative purposes only.
