Re-payment Terms 1. The SSTG Maritime Community Development Fund agreement will stipulate the percentage of funding offered to each individual learner. 2. Funding is only available for courses offered by SSTG and only for academic courses and not housing, equipment, travel, food, etc. 3. Example Scenario: a. SSTG provides financial assistance for 60% of your course fees and 40% is therefore payable by the learner before the course starts. b. Where 60% funding is provided it means that 60% of the total course fees, will be placed on an interest free loan for the duration of the Applicant s studies with SSTG and there will be no interest charged during the year that studies commenced. c. Repayment of this amount will start as soon as the learner is employed or as soon as his/her studies are completed. Your contract will stipulate the start date. d. The initial 40%, in this scenario, is therefore payable before the course starts or as agreed to contractually. e. The interest rate will be calculated in January of each year and will not change for the following 12 months. f. The funding assistance awarded in this scenario, i.e. the 60%, will need to be paid in full within a five-year period from the date of which you become liable to start re-payments. 4. A simple calculation will be as follows for an Applicant with a course fee of R 50 000 in total (Year started 2017): a. 40% of R 50 000 = R 20 000 payable upfront or within a time frame as agreed. (2017) b. 60% of R 50 000 = R 30 000 will no interest or re payment obligations in 2017. c. In January 2018 interest of 5.5% will be added to your outstanding fees, totalling R 31 650. d. The 5-year re-payment plan commences. R 31 650 divided into 5 years equals R 6 330 to be paid in 2018. This amount can be paid in full or divided into equal instalments as a payment plan. e. In January 2019 interest of 5.5% will be added to the outstanding fees. The outstanding amount less 2018 repayment = R 25 320 +5.5% = R 26 712.60. With four years left, your re-payment will be R 6 678.15 for 2019. f. This calculation will continue until your re-payments are completed. g. You may settle the account or make additional payments into the account at any time. Should you do so, you will reduce your overall payment amount over the term of the loan. 5. SSTG will seek financial assistance from other Bursary funds, State funds, Grants and International donors. If money is received from these sources, then those monies will be allocated to the full outstanding loan amount for the whole fund for that year and each learner will have their total outstanding monies owed to SSTG reduced in accordance with the percentage of funding assistance received be each individual. This will reflect on your annual statement. 6. SSTG reserves the right to cancel any funding assistance following non compliance with the fund criteria and will expect full payment on presentation of such non-compliance letter. If such non-compliance continues, SSTG reserves the right to take any legal action necessary to remedy the situation, until resolved. I give SSTG permission to validate my information with third parties. By signing this application form, I accept and understand that this does not guarantee that I will receive any financial assistance. If I am not successful, I will be responsible for all required fees charged by SSTG for the course should I chose to continue. I understand that any false information provided in this application may disqualify me from receiving any financial assistance and will result in the immediate withdrawal of any approved loan. On approval of any financial assistance, I agree and understand that the contract must be signed within 30 Days after notification of such approved assistance, or the approved assistance will be cancelled. I am aware that once approved, this is financial assistance, limited to a specific duration of no more than 5 years after tuition in which the full amount must be paid back in accordance with my contract.
