Victoria Borwick MP - Notting Hill Carnival METHODOLOGY NOTE The survey was designed and distributed by Victoria Borwick MP, who sent postal questionnaires to all 15,000 homes in and around the Carnival footprint between 9 th January and 20 th February 2016. The survey was also accessible online. 1,026 valid survey responses were received before the 29 th February 2016 deadline (974 paper, 52 online), excluding 18 duplicates which were removed (where a respondent used the same name, address, and/or email address twice or more). ComRes were supplied with full data, including all returned paper copies, and ComRes ran integrity checks to confirm that data were inputted correctly, coded open-ended questions and produced data tables representing the results.

Dear fellow residents, I was shocked, as I am sure many of you were, about the injuries and crimes committed in our neighbourhood during the Carnival. You may know that 48 members of the public were injured and 38 knives and weapons were recovered. A vast amount of preparation and planning goes into the Carnival from the Police, the Council, the organisers, and of course the participants, so I am keen to hear your views. I think it is sensible that we re-open the discussion as to how we can have both a safe and enjoyable festival. Staying in touch with local people is really important to me. Please take a minute to fill out this survey and return it to me, so that I can stay in touch with issues that are personally important to you and your family. Victoria Borwick, MP for Kensington Q1a. Did you visit the Carnival on Sunday or Monday?... 1 Q1b. Why did you not visit the Carnival? [Coded open-end responses]... 13 Q7. The Carnival currently costs over 7million to police. Who do you think should pay for the majority of this?... 16 Q8. Last year, over 6,000 police and 400 stewards were responsible for safety on each day of the Carnival. Would you like to see more stewards?... 17 Q9. Dear fellow residents, Table 1/1 I was shocked, as I am sure many of you were, about the injuries and crimes committed in our neighbourhood during the Carnival.
