How to grasp Adjustment of Annual Ordinary Depreciation of Tax Area
Basic Concept New Depreciation Engine calculates the ordinary depreciation (before adjustment by cut-off value check) by the formula Base Value * Period Factor * Depreciation Rate, and conduct the cut-off value check. If necessary, the system adjusts the calculated ordinary depreciation amount. Ordinary depreciation before adjustment by cut-off value check Base Value 100,035 * Period Factor 1 * Rate 0.536 = 53,618.76 53,618 JPY (In this example, the rounding setting is depreciation arithmetic rounding.) However, the system returns 50,035 JPY, thus the ordinary depreciation is adjusted by cut-off value check. The adjusted amount is 53,618 JPY 50,035 JPY = 3,583 JPY. 2013 SAP AG or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. 14
How to grasp Adjusted amount of annual ordinary depreciation According to the basic concept, if the cut-off value check is not conducted and the adjustment of ordinary depreciation is not conducted either, the ordinary depreciation before adjustment by cut-off value check can be understood. If we can ignore the cut-off value and negative NBV is allowed after the depreciation calculation, the ordinary depreciation before adjustment by cut-off value check can be understood. New Depreciation Engine provides BADI to edit parameters for depreciation calculation, so we could edit parameters related to the cut-off value, however, we cannot edit the setting of NBV in depreciation areas, and we cannot edit to allow depreciation below NBV zero either in BADI. Here, the example to add depreciation areas and depreciation keys is shown. 2013 SAP AG or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. 15
Add depreciation areas and dep.keys 1/ 1) Add depreciation areas to chart of depreciation. The source areas are tax w/ additional depreciation area (here, area 02) and tax w/o additional depreciation area (here, area 11). After the copy, the setting of NBV is changed to * to allow negative NBV. Derived depreciation areas, here 92-02 and 92-93 are also added. 2) Add depreciation keys which allow depreciation below NBV zero. 3) Activate depreciation areas defined in the step 1) for asset classes. (Note) For the default proposal at the timing of new assets creation, depreciation keys defined in the step 2) and useful life is necessary to be assigned to an asset class. 4) Rule for value take-over of depreciation areas defined in the step 1) is defined. Tax with additional depreciation area (here, depreciation area 02), tax without additional depreciation area (here, depreciation area 11) are used as source depreciation area. 5) Memo value setting of depreciation areas defined in the step 1) (here, depreciation area 92 and 93) is removed. 6) Open depreciation areas defined in the step 1) via transaction AFBN. 7) After 6) is conducted, depreciation terms (depreciation key, useful life, etc) are copied to depreciation areas defined in the step1) from the source depreciation areas. By, for example, the substitution, depreciation keys are changed. 8) Asset transactions which are posted to tax with additional depreciation area (here, depreciation area 02) and tax without additional depreciation area (here, depreciation area 11) should be also posted to depreciation areas defined in the step 1) (here, depreciation area 92 and 93). Check the limitation of depreciation area, and if necessary, change the limitation of depreciation area. 2013 SAP AG or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. 16

Additionally define depreciation areas (here, depreciation area 92 and 93) and change the NBV setting to *. Copy depreciation area 11 to create depreciation area 93 and change the NBV setting to *. 2013 SAP AG or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. 17
Add depreciation areas and dep.keys 3/ Area 93(Source area 11):tax without additional depreciation(before the adjustment) Area 94=Area 92 Area 93(additional depreciation before the adjustment) Area 95=Area 92 Area 02(the adjustment, the reduced amount) 2013 SAP AG or an SAP affiliate company. Add depreciation areas and dep.keys 5/ 2)-2. IMG: Asset Accounting Depreciation Valuation Methods Depreciation Key Maintain Depreciation Key Newly define depreciation keys which do not adjust ordinary depreciation even if NBV reaches its cut-off value or memo value. Copy depreciation keys assigned to tax with additional depreciation area (here, depreciation area 02) and tax without additional depreciation area (here, depreciation area 11), change base method to the one defined in the step 2)-1. Example: Old-SLM In this example, derived depreciation area 94 and 95 are also defined. Depreciation keys assigned to derived depreciation areas should have the same cut-off value key assigned to the real depreciation areas which is composed of this derived depreciation area (E:AA951). Set 3 Cutoff value is ignored in the scrap value setting. 2013 SAP AG or an SAP affiliate company. All rights reserved. 20
Add depreciation areas and dep.keys 6/ Example: Old-DBM In this example, derived depreciation area 94 and 95 are also defined. IMG: Asset Accounting Master Data Define Substitution Define substitution for mass changes Push the button Substitution to define your substitution, and then, assign it to your company code.
