He got involved in farm broadcasting in the early 1980's working in Dubuque, Iowa and later for a Farm Network based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He joined WGLR Radio in 1998. Bob is a member of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters. He has two grown daughters, Tracy and Kati. Bob has previously hosted tours to Alaska, Hawaii, New England, California, Ireland, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

Day by Day Itinerary Day 1 September 10 (Sat) Departure Day to Washington DC Welcome to Washington DC! Today transfer to your hotel and enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Tonight, meet with your traveling companions for a WELCOME DINNER at one of Washington s favorite restaurants, followed by an illumination tour of the monuments. (D) Day 2 September 11 (Sun) Washington DC This morning s sightseeing features many of Washington DC s famous landmarks, including the LINCOLN, VIETNAM, KOREAN, and WORLD WAR II Memorials. Take a guided tram tour of ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY, where you ll see the KENNEDY GRAVESITES. Next, get lunch on your own at the restored historic UNION STATION before heading to the NATIONAL ARCHIVES where you will view the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence. This afternoon, visit the NEWSEUM, a seven level museum packed with interactive exhibits that explore how news effects our historic moments. Tonight, visit Georgetown for an evening at leisure and dinner on your own. Georgetown is one of DC s best-known neighborhoods that evolved out of an 18th-century port town and perfect for exploring on foot. With remarkable row houses, many unique restaurants and more than 450 shops. (B) Day 3 September 12 (Mon) Washington DC. Enjoy the full day at leisure and discover Washington as you like. Perhaps stroll the neighborhood, shop, take in a particular museum of interest and enjoy the hop on-hop off Old Town Trolley. Your Tour Director will be on hand for suggestions. (B) Day 4 September 13 (Tues) Washington DC Mount Vernon Yorktown Williamsburg This morning we visit MOUNT VERNON, the restored home of George Washington. Tour the house and gardens, and visit the gravesite. Then, visit YORKTOWN HISTORICAL BATTLEFIELD PARK, where the British surrendered to Washington s troops in 1781, bringing an end to the American Revolution. You are then free to enjoy your evening in Williamsburg. (B) Day 5 September 14 (Wed) Williamsburg. Excursion to Jamestown Settlement Today, enjoy an exclusive PERFORMANCE from Sylvia Tabb-Lee, a professional historian. Visit the nearby JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT for a guided tour to learn about the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Then, enter COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG S HISTORIC AREA, where costumed villagers add to the authenticity. Stroll down its quaint streets, browse through the historic trade shops, and see the Public Gaol. Also be sure to stop at Raleigh Tavern, the meeting place for Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and other patriots. This evening, enjoy a Colonial-style dinner at a famous local TAVERN for the chance to engage in a recreated supper experience savored by 18th-century patriots. (B,D) Day 6 September 15 (Thurs) Williamsburg Richmond Monticello Shenandoah National Park First stop is Richmond, Virginia s capital and once the capital of the Confederacy. Visit ST. JOHN S CHURCH, where Patrick Henry proclaimed, Give me liberty or give me death! Journey to Charlottesville to tour MONTICELLO, Thomas Jefferson s estate with its beautiful gardens and imposing mansion designed by Jefferson himself. Enjoy photo stops and panoramic vistas from Skyline Drive in beautiful SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK, where you will stay for the night. Tonight, learn about the park s history and nature from a local expert as you enjoy tasty S mores around a fire. (B,D) Day 7 September 16 (Fri) Shenandoah National Park Gettysburg Today, follow the same route as Lee s army during its invasion of Pennsylvania. Travel through Maryland and across the Mason-Dixon Line into Pennsylvania to visit the GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK. Here, you ll have time to visit the Eisenhower farm and historic site. Enjoy a tour of Gettysburg and hear your Local Guide vividly recount the Battle of 1863. During the tour you ll see the locations of Pickett s Charge and Little Round Top. Also spend some time exploring the newly renovated museum and cyclorama. Enjoy the evening at leisure. (B) Day 8 September 17 (Sat) Gettysburg. Excursion to local farms This morning, enjoy an exclusive PRESENTATION by one of America s heroes of the 19th century Ulysses S. Grant. Next, a transfer is provided through the country side to real working farms in Pennsylvania. First, visit Kreider Farm followed by Perrydell Farm. Head back to Gettysburg to celebrate your historic journey with a Colonial-style candlelight farewell dinner at the elegant DOBBIN HOUSE TAVERN, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (B,D) Day 9 September 18 (Sun) Gettysburg Washington DC Your tour ends this morning with breakfast in Gettysburg before traveling back to Washington DC airport and return flight home. (B)
