HELSINKI TOURISM STATISTICS APRIL 2016 Bednights up 14 per cent In April 2016, 247,000 overnight stays were recorded in Helsinki, of which 128,000 were spent by domestic visitors and 119,000 nights by foreign visitors (Russians 8,000). Bednights were up to 14 per cent compared to the April of last year. Bednights spent by Finnish visitors increased by 21 per cent and those of foreign visitors grew 8 per cent. In April 2016 the number of bednights in Finland was 1,40 million (+ 4 %), of which Finns accounted for 1,1 million (+ 4 %) and foreign visitors for 297,000 (+ 3 %). Overnight stays by Russian visitors totalled for 31,000 (- 9 %). Up in April Canada + 68 % Netherlands + 31 % Norway + 26 % USA + 23 % Denmark + 22 % Estonia + 17 % Down in April Switzerland -29 % Poland -27 % Spain -11 % Business nights increased Of the total number of bednights in accommodation facilities, 141,000 (57 %) were for business purposes and 106,000 (43 %) leisure. Bednights spent by business travellers grew 24 per cent and bednights by leisure travellers 7 per cent from a year earlier. Accommodation facilities received 154,000 visitors, which is 15 per cent more than a year previously. Finns accounted for 91,000 (+ 23 %) and foreign visitors for 63,000 (+ 5 %). Visitors arriving from Russia totalled less than 5,000 (- 8 %). Accommodation turnover EUR 18,5 million Accommodation turnover in the area rose by 22 per cent and was EUR 18,5 million. The average price of a bednight in April 2016 was EUR 74,2 euroa (+ 6 %). Tax-free sales decreased by 16 per cent Tax-free sales in Helsinki decreased 16 per cent, while in the entire country tax-free sales decreased 24 per cent. Taxfree purchases by Chinese visitors decreased 21 per cent but it was increased by Japanese 4 per cent in Helsinki. Taxfree purchases by Russian visitor in Helsinki were 22 per cent lower than a year earlier, when the decrease was 29 per cent in the entire country. Air traffic up 2 per cent The number of passengers at Helsinki Airport in April was almost 1,4 million (+ 2 %). Of these 232,000 (+ 7 %) took domestic flights while about 1,1 million (+ 1 %) took international flights. 445,000 people arrived by ship In April, 404,000 passengers arrived in the Port of Helsinki (- 3 %). Of the passengers, 312,000 came from Estonia (-0,2 %), 77,000 from Sweden ( -9 %) ja 10,000 from Russia ( - 42 %). Passengers arriving from Germany totalled about 5,000 ( + 7 %). 1
