1 Introduction Handelsbankens Term Directory contains a specification of the business terms used in the business transactions, described in Handelsbanken s Implementation guides. The Implementation guides refer to the Term Directory. The specifications listed below are independent of business transactions. Specific regulations and conditions, which only apply within certain business transactions are stated in Handelsbanken s Implementation guides. The Term Directory is based on UNTDED, the United Nations Trade Data Element Directory. For complete information about the service and the implementation in different countries a combination of several documents is needed: Handelsbanken s Implementation guide including information about the service debit advice EDIFACT format DEBMUL. Handelsbanken s Implementation guide including information about the service credit advice EDIFACT format CREMUL. Handelsbanken s Country-specific implementation guides with example files The description is specific to Handelsbanken s services and routines and must therefore be used only when working with Handelsbanken. The business terms are described in groups according to the table of contents. 1.1 Related documents These documents and specifications will make it easier to understand and apply the implementation guidelines: [IBAN] IBAN, ECBS SIG203 v.3.2 August 2003 [ISO country] ISO code, country, ISO-3166-1 [ISO currency] ISO code, currency, ISO 4217-1 [BIC] ISO code, BIC, Bank Identifier Code, ISO-9362 [ISO 8859] Character set, ISO/IEC 8859-1 [http://www.swedishbankers.se/sidor/linkedpages/edifact-meddelandetill%c3%a4mpning-d- 96A.aspx] o Implementation guide CREMUL Svenska bankföreningen version D.96A o Implementation guide DEBMUL Svenska bankföreningen version D.96A o Term Directory, Svenska Bankforeningen. 1.2 Definitions Term BBAN IBAN SWIFT BIC BBAN stands for Basic Bank Account Number and identifies a unique national bank account number. A BBAN can comprise up to 30 characters and can be alphanumeric. An international IBAN is created based on a BBAN. IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. An IBAN consists of a maximum of 35 characters. A Swedish IBAN consists of 24 characters. SWIFT is the abbreviation of Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication and is a communications network used by most of the banks in the world for sending each other payment instructions and messages. Bank Identifier Code, 8 or 11 characters. A unique address linked to SWIFT 1.3 History New releases of the Implementation Guides are published on a regular basis, based on new versions of the underlying standards or to provide clarification or changes. At Handelsbanken, changes to version numbers are made according to the following guidelines. The original version is 1.0.0. The last digit is changed when the format descriptions are changed, for example text clarifications and examples. The second digit is changed if minor changes are made to the format such as new countries or changes in the payment type. The first digit is changed (thus becoming a completely new version) if the format changes mean that the customer will have to make adaptations in order to continue using the service. In this case, all customers affected are informed of the new version and what the changes involve.
