OVERVIEW Since 2016, Thuso Risk Advisors Pty Ltd ( ThusoRA ) has offered the South African market both general commercial insurance and niche products. The latter services include credit insurance, construction bonds and guarantees, and capital-raising facilities from different lending institutions. ThusoRA is a proudly Black-owned company, known equally for the extensive and wide-ranging expertise of our leaders in insurance, banking, development finance and asset management; and for our ability to meet the business needs not traditionally fulfilled by SA s commercial insurance firms. LEADERSHIP EXECUTIVE Herman Moloi Chief Executive Officer, ThusoRA Herman s management qualification (UCT) and MBA (Milpark Business School), together with his 18 years of insurance experience in broking and reinsurance, have equipped him well for his role as CEO of ThusoRA. Additionally, Herman has served most of SA s leading insurers, including Mutual and Federal, Guardian National, Aon, Swiss Re, GlenrandMIB and Absa Insurance Company, building proven expertise in corporate risk, reinsurance, marketing, business development and broking. Mamosa Motjope Finance Director, ThusoRA Mamosa has, among other qualifications, a BSc in Electrical Engineering (Wits) and an MBA (Edinburgh Business School). As the finance director of Thuso Risk Advisors, she leverages her extensive experience in conducting due diligence in the areas of marketing, technical and financial for the manufacturing industry where she has been involved in over 80 transactions. Mamosa s leadership of ThusoRA s economic and market research portfolio translates into responsibility for market research and modelling, technical research and modelling, financial modelling, and advisory. She also has proven expertise in software development, business analyses and project management, via her experience in the investment-banking environment. Lawrence Madzwara Executive Director, ThusoRA Lawrence is a credit risk and risk management expert with abundant experience in financial derivatives. Currently the MD of The Institute of Advanced Studies in Financial Markets, he has written articles and study materials on credit risk valuation and credit management. His practical and quantitative expertise in this sphere explains why he is widely considered to have been instrumental in the formal development of SA s credit derivatives market. Lawrence s qualifications include a BSc Physics (Wits), Management Development (Stellenbosch) and Executive Management (University of Toronto/York University). NON-EXEC LEADERSHIP Gilimamba S Mahlati Chairman, ThusoRA Dr Gil Mahlati, Chairman of African Financial Group, is a surgeon who specialised in liver transplant surgery in Cape Town and London. After three years in private practice in Pretoria, he entered the business arena specifically, banking, private equity, life insurance, health risk management, employee benefits and administration. Gil currently sits on various boards including listed companies in mining, healthcare, transformation and transcontinental business development. Brian van Flymen Brian began his career in trade finance before developing an interest in marine insurance. In 1975 he established his own brokerage, selling marine policies and small commercial insurances. Today, more than 40 years later, Brian remains a marine insurance expert and is the current President of the Financial Intermediaries Association of Southern Africa (FIA). Brian is indeed an industry stalwart, having sat on the committee of the FIA (SAIBA and SAFSIA) since 1989 and having served as a director since its incorporation.
Bruce Croza An IT consultant with over 25 years of experience in many areas of IT management, business support systems design and implementation, project management, IT training and development, Bruce provides IT and business strategic alignment assessments, recommendations and solutions. With specific focus areas including business process mapping, business performance monitoring and evaluation, and enterprise architecture modelling, Bruce has developed expertise in quality standards, governance, performance management, and strategic alignment. OUR PHILOSOPHY Yes, we are a risk management company. However, our time in the market has shown us that our consulting services are more than a sideline secondary service.
