SITUATION REPORT No. 1 Hurricane Irma The Florida State Response Team September 5, 2017 - Published at 1300hrs State Operations Center Activation Level: 1 Reporting Period: Sept. 5, 2017 0700hrs Sept. 5, 2017 1900hrs Information Current as 1230hrs CURRENT SITUATION/ WEATHER SUMMARY: At 11 AM EDT, Hurricane Irma was located 225 miles east Antigua in the Lesser Antilles, which is about 1,500 miles southeast Miami, FL. Irma has maximum sustained winds 180 mph which makes Irma a Category 5 on the Saffir- Simpson scale. Irma is moving west at 14 mph. There are currently no tropical or other weather watches and warnings for any part Florida. South Florida is in the forecast cone at day 5 and the earliest direct impacts may arrive Friday evening. In the meantime, a typical summertime pattern remains in place across the state with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Ensure basic needs Florida residents and visitors. 2. Ensure the safety responders. 3. Provide resource and protective action support for storm related preparations as needed. 3
4. Promote coordination between State, Local, and SERT Partners. 5. Minimize economic impact the affected areas or communities. 6. Continue to issue emergency public affairs information concerning the situation in coordination with Florida counties. 7. Keep stakeholders, responders, and the public informed response and preparedness activities. 8. Ensure staffing capabilities the SERT and the SEOC. EMERGENCY SERVICES BRANCH: ESF 10 DEP staff is currently conducting baseline shoreline assessment to help evaluate beach impacts. DEP is reaching out to drinking and wastewater facilities to help ensure preparation steps are being taken. FLAWARN is now tracking assistance requests The South Florida Water Management District has already begun lowering water levels in canals and moving as much water as possible through flood control structures throughout its flood control system in preparation for the storm. ESF 16 Law Enforcement Identifying resources to be used to support state and county needs HUMAN SERVICES BRANCH: ESF 6 is working with support agencies to identify state mass care resources. ESF 6 will be reaching out to the counties in the morning to start coordinating with their ESF 6 counterpart use our situational awareness unit to communicate with each county.
