Your introduction to Saga Caravan Insurance Thank you for your interest in Saga Caravan Insurance. This guide gives you a summary of our cover levels and the additional options available. When you take out a policy with us you will receive a clear and concise Policy Book that describes all the terms and conditions of your insurance cover in detail. It is important that you read and check your policy documentation carefully when you receive it. If you would like a copy of the Policy Book, please call 0800 904 7488, or visit saga.co.uk/caravan where you can download one. A brief description of our cover We offer two cover options. You can choose to insure your caravan and equipment based on their new replacement value with our new for old cover or you can choose to insure them based on their current, second-hand value with our market value cover. Our claims service If you ever need to make a claim, Saga aims to offer you a quick, straightforward and stress-free service. All our claims advisers are based in the UK and you can call them 24 hours a day. Call us on 0800 027 1339 and we will take full details over the phone. You don t normally need to worry about filling in any forms. 3
Cut the cost of your premium Here at Saga, we are happy to be able to offer our caravan insurance customers a range of discounts and savings. No Claim Discount We offer up to 20% No Claim Discount, the maximum discount being available to drivers with four or more claim-free years. We also offer the option to protect your No Claim Discount, see page 6 for more information. Caravan Club member discount We will give you up to 5% discount if you are a member of the Caravan Club. Security discounts We know that lots of our customers take steps to protect their caravans. That s why we offer discounts for customers who take the following measures: Storing your caravan on a CaSSOA-rated site up to 10% discount if your caravan is stored at a site awarded a Gold rating by the Caravan Storage Site Owners Association, or up to 5% discount if it is stored at a Silver or Bronze-rated site. These sites provide security measures to protect the stored caravans from theft or damage. Fitting a tracking device up to 10% discount if you have a tracking device fitted to your caravan that is on our approved list. Installing security devices up to 10% discount for wheel locking devices; up to 5% discount per item for Thief Beaters ID Kit, Tyron Safety Wheel Bands and Electronic Anti-Snaking System. Choose the excess to suit you Saga offers flexible excesses (the amount you contribute towards the cost of a claim). The standard excess is 50 but you can choose to increase this amount up to a maximum of 500 increasing your excess will reduce the premium you will pay. Please note, policy is subject to a minimum premium after discounts have been applied. 4
A quick guide to the cover we include When you take out a policy you can choose either new for old or market value cover for your caravan and equipment. Whichever you choose, our caravan insurance offers valuable protection with a wide range of features included as standard, as summarised below: Features and benefits New for old caravan and equipment cover based on new replacement value. To qualify for new for old cover, you must have owned the caravan for at least two years if it is over five years old; the sum insured must be maintained at the new for old replacement cost for the caravan; and the caravan must be serviced annually. for caravans up to 15 years old Market value caravan and equipment cover based on current second-hand value. Contents and personal belongings cover against accidental damage, fire and theft; based on their market value. Up to 1,500 Recovery and delivery if you can t use your caravan following an accident or incident, we will take it to the nearest repairer and then deliver it to your chosen destination in the UK. Up to 3,500 Loss of use cover if you can t continue to use your caravan following an accident or incident while you re on holiday, we will provide cover for accommodation, hiring another caravan and/or travel expenses to get you home. 175 a day 2,625 max Cover for lending your caravan to family and friends if you lend your caravan to your family and friends, they can enjoy the same cover as you do, except for personal belongings where they ll need their own cover. 5
Features and benefits (continued) Personal accident cover regardless of whose fault it is, if you are seriously injured as a result of an accident involving your caravan, our policy includes compensation for certain injuries. Up to 20,000 No Claim Discount for each year you remain claim free you will earn a 5% No Claim Discount, up to 20%. Vandalism cover Your No Claim Discount will not be affected following a claim for damage caused by vandals. Additional cover options you can choose We recognise that our customers use their caravans in different ways and you may want specific protection to suit you. That s why we offer a choice of additional cover options. European cover Full cover if you take your caravan to the European Union, with no limit on the number of trips you make or how long you go for. No Claim Discount Protection If you have spent a long time building up a maximum No Claim Discount, the last thing you want is to suddenly lose it because of a claim. With this option, there can be two claims made over five years without you losing your discount. 6
A few key things we don t cover There are some things we can t cover at all and some that have certain restrictions or conditions you need to be aware of. To ensure you know what these are, here s a quick guide. Please refer to your Policy Book and Schedule for full details. Claims excesses Your Schedule will show how much the excess is on your policy. This is the amount you must pay towards any claim you make. New for old cover We will only accept a caravan that is over five years old if you have owned it for more than two years If your caravan is over five years old it must be serviced annually in order to qualify for new for old cover The sum insured must be maintained at the new for old replacement value for the caravan. Vandalism cover A vandalism claim will not affect your No Claim Discount if you provide us with the relevant police crime reference number and details of the police station this crime was reported to. Further details can be found in the No Claim Discount section of the Policy Book. Theft claims If your caravan is unattended and detached from the towing vehicle it must be secured with at least one fully operational security device that has been approved by us in order to be covered for any theft or attempted theft claims. 7
Assistance if you break down To help keep you on the road, Saga Breakdown Assistance can also be added to your caravan policy at a discounted rate. This provides reliable breakdown cover for your car and caravan 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Special rates available for Saga Caravan Insurance customers Features and benefits Premier Comprehensive National Recovery Home Call Essential Roadside repair if you are at least ¼ of a mile from your home, you only pay the cost of any parts fitted. Puncture repair for your car, or your caravan/trailer when you are towing. Recovery of your car, caravan, yourself and up to five passengers to any destination of your choice within ten miles of the breakdown. National recovery as above, but to anywhere in the UK. Home call assistance at your home, or within ¼ of a mile of your home. Driver care we will give you a hire car or overnight accommodation if you cannot use your car. European cover for vehicles up to 16 years old. Holiday departure cover if you are going on holiday, cover to get you to your departure point and recover your car and caravan to anywhere in the UK, for vehicles up to 16 years old. Additional cover options Personal cover cover for you and your spouse/partner (or a nominated driver aged 50 or over residing at the same address) whilst driving or travelling in any other car in the UK. Additional vehicle cover cover for any additional cars kept at the same address as yours (maximum three). Saga Breakdown Repair cover for replacement parts and garage labour, up to 500 per claim, following a breakdown of your nominated vehicle (does not cover the Isle of Man or Channel Islands). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Further information about compensation scheme arrangements is available from the FSCS website: www.fscs.org.uk After you ve taken out your policy As with most insurance policies, Saga Caravan Insurance is a 12-month policy. When you receive your policy documentation you have 14 days to decide whether the policy is right for you. After that we will assume you have accepted the terms and want your policy to continue for 12 months. There are a few things we d like to advise you of: If you need to cancel your policy Cancellation within 14 days If you cancel your policy within 14 days of receipt of your policy documents, we will give you a pro-rata 10
refund on your premium based on the cover you have had. If you wish to cancel your policy and cover has not yet commenced you will be entitled to a full refund of the premium. If after 14 days you have not cancelled your policy, we will assume that you have accepted the terms and wish your policy to continue for the agreed period of cover. Cancellation rights If this policy does not meet your needs you have the right to cancel it at any point during its duration. Provided full recovery has been made on any claims that have occurred in the current period of insurance, you will be entitled to a pro-rata refund of your premium based on the cover you have had. You will not be entitled to any refund if any claim has not been settled and full recovery of our costs made. We may cancel this policy by giving seven days notice by recorded delivery letter to your last known address. This policy may be cancelled if: you do not pay any policy premium requested or, if applicable, stop paying the instalment premiums; your insurance details change such that they no longer meet our acceptance criteria; you fail to provide further information or documentation we have requested in writing: in support of your insurance application, renewal or adjustment you wish to make to your policy; to assist us handle a claim that is being made; or we act under General Condition 5 Fraudulent claims. Please note that if you amend or cancel your policy mid term and have paid by credit card or cheque, we will be unable to refund any amounts of 5 or less. Similarly, we will only request any charges from you if the amount is over 5. How we handle your money When collecting or returning premiums, Saga Services Limited acts as the agent of the insurer. This means that your money is protected, as any premiums you pay to us are treated by the insurer as having been paid directly to them. Fraud prevention At Saga we are working hard to detect insurance fraud and so help protect you from potentially paying more for your insurance in the future. In line with industry standards we may request proof of any details provided to us and we will check a variety of industry databases to combat fraud. 11
