DALLAS ASSOCIATION OF HEALTH UNDERWRITERS NEWSLETTER January 2018 January 2018 Presidents Message We re all in the insurance industry, and the concept of buying insurance to protect valuable assets is well known to us. Charles E. Soule wrote the book, Disability Income Insurance The Unique Risk, and implied that, of all the assets we find of value and worth insuring, the most important asset and most overlooked, is our income. Without it, we could not afford to acquire or retain assets, or purchase the insurance to protect them. You can protect your income from loss due to incapacitation by illness or accident with disability insurance, but what about legislative, social, or political change? If in 2020, the legislative and executive branches on the United State Government change power, the probability of a single payer system is far greater than the threat we saw in 1994 during the Clinton administration. The pressure to eliminate Cloture of 60% majority voting is being challenged by the current legislators. Fine for now, for those who favor Republicans in leadership, but what if the tide turns? What insurance can you by now to protect your industry and livelihood against a single payer, government run system?
