Forum Information Title: Investment Fundamentals Forums Part 2 Date and Timing: Friday, 16 th November 2012, 6.30pm to 9.30pm Venue: SGX Auditorium, Level 2, SGX Centre 1 2 Shenton Way Singapore 068804 Moderator: Speakers: Dr Tony Tan, CFA; Mr Gary Ng, CFA; Mr Andy Tan, CFA and Mr Alan Lok, CFA Forum Outline: i) Investment risks: Nothing comes for free. The market is efficient. Increased returns come with increased risks o What are the risks you should know before investing? o A risk-reward approach to investing o What are some of the recent proxies for risk-on / risk-off environment? ii) The two-faces of foreign exchange. Foreign Exchange is a two-faced variable - a source of noise that investors may wish to hedge away or a source of return that investors may actively pursue. The fact that it is also a medium of exchange and an instrument of policy makes it a particularly difficult beast to manage or exploit. In this talk, I will take a dealing room's perspective and draw on recent experiences to describe the factors that drive FX rates, the micro-structure of participants in this market and what the implications are for investors in general. iii) Short-cuts to financial statement analysis o Standard operating procedure of financial statement analysis. Sources of intelligence Analysis strategies Key drivers Valuation pointers o Showcasing Return on Equity and Price to Book ratios as a short-cut way to gaining insight on a counter o Looking into the three separate components of Return on Equity As a participant in the CFA Institute Approved-Provider Program, CFA Singapore has determined that this event qualifies for 2.5 credit hours.
