CAKES Class 1 Class 2 Class 3 Class 4 Class 5 Class 6 5 Flapjack Squares - Own recipe 5 Plain Scones using a 5cm cutter Own recipe A Round of Shortbread own recipe Lemon Drizzle Cake Own recipe A Victoria Sandwich Maximum 20cm in diameter A Quiche Maximum 20cm in diameter own recipe Class 7 A Boiled Fruit Cake Ingredients 397 can of condensed milk 150g butter 225g raisins 225g sultanas 175g currants 175g chopped glaće cherries 225g self-raising flour 2tsp ground mixed spice 1 tsp ground cinnamon 2 large eggs Method 1. Preheat the oven to fan 130 degrees / conventional 150 degrees / gas mark 2. 2. Grease and 18cm cake time and line with baking parchment. 3. Pour the condensed milk and butter into a large heavy-based pan and add all the fruit. 4. Gently heat until the butter had melted, stirring all the time. 5. Simmer the fruit gently for 5 minutes, stirring all the while until the fruit feels softened. 6. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool for at least 10 minutes, stirring every now and again. 7. In a large mixing bowl sift the flour and spices, and mix them together to make a well in the centre of the bowl. 8. Add the eggs and the cooled fruit mixture. 9. Combine everything together using a wooden spoon and then turn into your prepared cake tin. 10. Bake in the over 1¾- 2 hours. The cake should be well risen and golden brown. 11. Once out of the oven leave the cake to cool for about 10 minutes in the tin before removing the parchment paper and cooling on a wire rack. Rules and Regulations 1. Entries are to be made on the application form and must be received no later than Friday 20 th April 2018. 2. Entry is 50p. No prize money will be awarded, however 1 st to 4 th place prize cards will be awarded in each class. Baking Competition entrants are not entitled to free admission tickets on any of the Show days. 3. Class entries will be restricted to 10 per class on a first come-first served basis. 4. Competition will be staged in the Food and Drink Exhibition. Exhibits must be staged on Wednesday 16 th May between 9am and 2pm. Judging will take place from 3pm on Wednesday 16 th May. Vehicles can be parked in the Green Car Park and access to the Showground will be on foot through the Green Entrance (the Exhibition is just inside the Entrance). 5. All exhibits must remain on display for the three days of the Show and must be collected between 4.30pm and 6.00pm on Saturday 19 th May 2018. Any exhibit left in the marquee after 7pm on the last evening will be disposed of. 6. Exhibitors may enter only one entry per class. 7. All exhibits must have been made by the exhibitor. 8. Badly deteriorated food will be discarded at the discretion of the competition Stewards. 9. The Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA) organiser of the Devon County Show operates to a high Health and Safety standard. All Show personnel are expected to meet that standard and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. 10. Neither the DCAA (Devon County Show), nor any of its Officers or Servants shall be in any way responsible or accountable for anything that may happen from any cause or circumstance whatever to Exhibitors or their Servants, or to any article exhibited or property brought into the Showground; or otherwise for anything else in connection with, or arising out of or attributable to, the Show, or these or any other condition or regulation prescribed by the DCAA (Devon County Show) in relation thereto; each Exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury, or damage done to, or occasioned by, or arising from, any article exhibited by him, and shall indemnify the DCAA (Devon County Show) against all legal and other proceedings in regard hereto. 11. All Exhibitors and other persons admitted to the Showground shall be subject to rules, the orders, regulations (including Health and Safety) of the DCAA (Devon County Show) and the Council of the Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA).
12. Force majeure If an event defined hereafter as Force Majeure occurs the DCAA (Devon County Show) will not be responsible for the financial consequences or any losses or any actions claims or demands caused to or made by an exhibitor or their servants or agents caused by the failure of the DCAA (Devon County Show) to be held on one or more of the days but for the event of Force Majeure on which it would otherwise to be held. Force Majeure means for the purposes of this clause exceptionally inclement weather; flooding of the whole or any part of the Devon County Showground or the whole or any part of the car parks associated with it ; an act of God including but not limited to fire, flood, earthquake, windstorm or other natural disaster; act of any sovereign including but not limited to war, invasion, act of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power or confiscation, nationalisation, requisition, destruction or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority or imposition of government sanction embargo or similar action; law, judgment, order, decree, embargo, blockade, labour dispute including but not limited to strike, lockout or boycott; interruption or failure of utility service including but not limited to electric power, gas, water or telephone service; failure of the transportation of any personnel equipment, machinery supply or material required by DCAA to run the Devon County Show ; breach of contract by any essential personnel; any other matter or cause beyond the control of DCAA (Devon County Show). 13. Information from entry forms will be stored on computer, information about the results may be published and/or provided to the Press for publication. The making of an entry is irrevocable consent for the storage and disclosure of information in this way. 14. The DCAA (Devon County Show) reserve the sole and absolute right to interpret these or any other prescribed regulations, conditions and prize lists, and to finally settle and determine all or any matters, question, difference, in regard thereto, or otherwise arising out of, or in connection, with the County Show and to substitute judges for those announced in the prize list, or to make additional appointments as may be deemed necessary.
